REVIEW: FIRE INSIDE BY KRISTEN ASHLEY

Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love—no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club...

For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She’s too polished and too classy for his tastes. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can’t say no. And he doesn’t regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that’s ever happened to him—in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

I was all prepared to dislike Hop, strongly, because of the impression we are given of him in Own the Wind. Well, as with most  all of Kristen Ashley's men, I ended up loving him. Hop is patient, kind, and has an interesting back story with his parents and his ex Mitzi. Once you understand the complicated story of his first marriage, you understand that he is NOT what he appeared to be in the first book of this series. He's actually a great guy, a former rocker, a great dad, and a loyal friend.

Dude....it's like we have the same brain or something! I had read that this book was going to be about Hop...and all of the stuff that goes down in Motorcycle Man and Own the Wind...to say my feelings were mixed would be the understatement of the century. But...like all of our hot biker boys, I realized that they are more rough around the edges than I have ever experienced...so I decided to withhold judgement until we could really get in his head. And...knowing that all of this is going down alongside all of the events and beyond Own the Wind was very exciting and I of course devoured this quickly!

So after Lanie propositions him one evening...and they hook up...it is evident that they cannot deny their chemistry. Try as they might, they cannot walk away from each other. Hop quickly discovers that he wants to be there to help Lanie slay the monster of her past, wants help, protect and take care of her. Swoon.

After meeting Lanie in the other books..you'll probably be as shocked as I was with the way that she propositioned Hop. Sure shocked him...and one experience with Hop will tell you that that is not something easily accomplished. While a lot of their scenes together are crazy sexy and intense, there is also a lot of other things going on with Chaos drama that is going to go so bad as the series goes on that I am already having palpitations about it, to them keeping all of this a secret from Tack and Tara....which didn't go well with Shy and Tabby, so you can rest assured that it does NOT go well this time around either!

It takes a little longer for Lanie to come around to the idea of a 'Lanie and Hop' relationship. Lanie is justifiably scared off of men because 7 years ago her fiance got mixed up in some seriously bad and dangerous stuff and got her shot, Tyra stabbed and himself killed. She bears those scars literally and figuratively--the guilt she feels prohibits her from getting close to Hop (or any man). But Hop is like a drug for her...she fights it and fights it and when they fight and break apart she pines for him. She continues to resist and uses Tyra as an excuse and the legitimate excuse of her dad's cheating ways as reasons that things won't work between them, but Hop keeps wearing her down.

My heart hurt for her because the demons of all of the crap that her ex put her through are still huge things, but her family drama also comes to the forefront and keeps her in a bad place. Just when we think that, like you said, Hop is going to ride in on his bad ass bike and save the day....well shee-it definitely hits the fan. This alpha male is not one to be strung around by his you know what, so I was shocked with a good portion of the story and willing Lanie to take chances with Hop and talking to Tara about the things they had never really talked about for 7 years. My advice...have plenty of time to read once you get past 50% because I don't know how you would be able to stand taking a break.

This book was another fantastic Kristen Ashley read: the seemingly odd couple of Lanie and Hop, the additional background you get about the Chaos motorcycle club, and the always enjoyable journey into a world that is exciting, tattooed, tough guy/girl awesomeness.  Another must read!

Fire Inside is up there for a favorite KA book on my list...and I definitely love being in the world of Chaos. I cannot wait to see what is to come...and I am crazy anxious to see how things end up with Rush's (Tack's son) story..even though it is probably the last one a lot (hopefully) down the line....he is going to make my heart hurt I can already tell!
