NEW RELEASE: Veiled by Karina Halle

  veiled available now     Veiled AMAZON

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Lie and The Pact comes a new romance that will test your limits and leave you breathless. Death. It's something that Ada Palomino has always known so well, having grown up in a house of horrors, surrounded by a family plagued by ghosts and demons and things that go bump in the night. But after the sudden and tragic death of her mother two years ago, death has never felt so personal. Or so close. Now eighteen, Ada is trying to move on with her life and the last month of summer holds nothing but sunshine and promises with her first year at a Portland design school just around the bend. That is until her increasingly violent and realistic dreams, dreams of other worlds, of portals and veils where her mother is tortured and souls bleed for mercy, start to blend into reality. Ada has to lean on her older sister, Perry, to try and make sense of it all but even then, she's never felt more alone. Then there's Jay. Tall, handsome and deeply mysterious, Jay would be just another stranger, a familiar face on the bus, if it wasn't for the fact that Ada has met him before. Every night. In every single dream. And the more that Ada is drawn to him in both worlds, the more she's in danger of losing everything. Including her heart. And her very soul.

Then, out of nowhere: “You looked beautiful tonight, by the way.” Oh jeez. Be still my fucking heart. I try and swallow, his words, the sincerity in his voice rocking my world off-balance. “Which part? When the power went out or when Jacob went upstairs to fight a demon?” I joke. But I joke because I’m feeling this a little too much. “All of it. You know why I call you Princess?” he asks, his tone graver than before, like he’s letting me in on a very deep secret. “Because I’m a spoiled brat?” “Because you’re beautiful.” Well that shut me up. The sentence hangs in the air, larger than life. He clears his throat and goes on and I have to fight against the urge to roll over and face him. “You have this way about you. You don’t see it. But I do. Like you’re born royalty. The way you hold yourself. Your walk. The face of an angel.” Butterflies take flight in my gut, spreading through my veins until my whole body feels like its floating. “Why are you being so nice to me? Am I going to die?” He laughs softly. “I don’t know why I’m saying these things. Just seemed like the things to say. You’re destined for something great, Ada, I know this. And it’s an honor to help see you through it.” His words cascade down on me like ashes from a fire. Where they land, I’m ignited. Jay thinks I’m beautiful. And more than that, he believes in me. Silence settles over us, stealing time. I hear him breathing in the dark, steady as a heartbeat. He might even be sleeping. But I can’t even begin to shut down. My entire body, from the top of my scalp, down to my toes, is buzzing with heat and electricity. It’s like everything I felt for him before, everything I try to ignore, is coming out in full force, responding to his words, to his body so close to mine. I can feel the warmth at my back, sinking into my spine, just from his presence only. I’m starting to have feelings for him. Not just in a he’s a giant hulking beast who’s here to protect me from the underworld way. But real feelings, slowly creeping into my heart, day by day. The thought is terrifying in the same way that demons are terrifying. They both might take possession of me. They both might ruin me. And I’m not sure how much of me I’ll have left.

QUESTIONS ABOUT VEILED

Q: Is this YA?

A: No. The main character is 18 and there is sex, crude language and violence in the book. It is recommended for mature teens or 18 and up.

Q: Is there a cliffhanger?

A: Nope! There's also no cheating and no love triangle (think I've covered the bases there!)

Q: Do I need to read the series (Experiment in Terror) that Veiled is a spinoff of first?

A: Absolutely not. Veiled stands alone. You do not need to have read the EIT series beforehand as this follows a different character (Ada Palomino) and a different storyline. However for those who have read EIT, all your favorites are in the book!

Q: Is it horror? Your other series was and I don't handle scary very well...

A: No, it's paranormal romance (though I promise you there are no vampires or werewolves), and while there are creepy elements to the story, it wouldn't be classified as horror. If you can read KMM's Fever Series or ANY urban fantasy, you'll be fine.

REVIEW: Destroy by Nikki Sloane

destroy-BANNER

CD Reiss has opened up the Drazen Kindle World and Nikki Sloane has released Destroy, a kindle world novella!

13579897_1754865914759601_1479626493_o

~~OUR REVIEW~~

Shel: Ever wonder what happened to Jonathan Drazen's ex-wife Jessica? Ever wonder what it how someone in the Drazen world would read if someone else wrote about him or her? Wellllll, you're in luck: C.D. Reiss opened up an opportunity for professional and novice writers to explore different aspects or genres with her characters and place them firmly in the Drazen universe.

Court: I am really in awe of this idea. It is hard enough to write, but to write in an already well established world, with characters we've both grown to love and hate and give them their own spin...wow! Just wow. I was very intrigued by Jessica back in the day, and all of the dynamics with her and Jonathan and I really loved this novella. OH HOW I AM WISHING IT WERE LONGER!

Shel: First up was Nikki Sloane and she knocked it out of the park. She gave us an interesting take on Jessica post-incarceration.  Jessica was every bit as fierce and snarly as I thought she might be and her nemesis, Alec, was an unexpected and hot surprise (to Jessica and me). With glimpses of what happened to her after Jonathan, how she felt about him and what happened, and where she was headed for the future, this erotic short was a sexy, fun, imaginative, and quick. Court: It was all of the above. You take my thoughts and make them better words, and I can't agree more. I am glad that Shelley decided we should read this, because it was inspired and powerful when this person was coming back from something really, really hard. Antiheroines for the win...with both characters! Whew.

Shel: We can't see who writes the next book in the Drazen universe and where they take us next. Interested? Read the synopsis:

Blurb:
My entire life fell apart once. It took everything I had to pull it back together, and drag the Jessica Carnes name out of the gutter. And now he threatens to destroy all I’ve worked for—my sculpture, my rebuilt reputation, and my life. All I have is my art, and I’ll do anything to save it from his predatory hands. Even if it means offering myself instead. DESTROY-nowlivegraphic

EXCERPT: Enchanting Wilder by Cassie Graham

Title: Enchanting Wilder
Series: Wild #1
Author: Cassie Graham
Release Date: July 28, 2016
Declan Wilder has never met a witch he didn’t hate. He is in the business of protecting the world from all things paranormal, after all. But what happens when one glimpse at an enchanting McKenna Sawyer sends him spinning? Suddenly, Declan can’t help but question everything he thought he knew about the world he’s been sworn to protect for so long.
Plagued by her parents’ death, McKenna Sawyer has no interest in anything outside of her family’s business and her sister’s happiness. So when she’s assigned to warn a Pursuer about his impending death, she’s less than prepared for the way he shifts her world on its axis. And when more time spent with him leads to more secrets about their world revealed, they must decide how their universes fit together — if at all.
The paranormal world is gearing up for a fight, and both Declan and McKenna have been called to battle. But the question remains — will they be fighting for or against each other?
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the relaxed smile on Declan’s lips as he felt the ocean for the first time, or the way he pulled me into his embrace when we finally decided to leave. His needy hands trembled on my leg as we drove back to town because we both knew that was it. Or even the way he looked at me with earnest when he dropped me off at home—promising it wouldn’t be the last time. I won’t forget the forced, dejected smile he had as he waved goodbye because he recognized what he had just promised was a lie. I won’t forget the taillights as he drove around the corner and out of my sight. And, I won’t forget the way my heart ached when I was all alone because I’ve never felt such a sensation before.
I’ll chase those feelings—the ones I shared with Declan. The good and the bad—I’ll pursue those forever. Because they’re some of the best ones I’ve got.
Cassie Graham is a firey redhead with an intense love for fairytales--angsty, suspenseful fairytales--but fairytales nonetheless. She's had all kinds of jobs--but the one she loves the most is being a writer. She finds solace in it.

She's also the mom to a beautiful little girl. Her greatest joy is watching her grow.

Cassie has always loved to write and is so thankful that she's able to do it full-time. She's very lucky to have a husband who works non-stop so she can live out her dream. He's the reason why writing romance is so easy.

Cassie is a born and raised Arizona girl. Though she has moved around a bit, her home always calls to her. It's where her heart will remain.

If Cassie isn't writing, she's more than likely cooking in the kitchen with her daughter or has her nose buried deep in a good book. She loves front porch sitting, drinking coffee, and constantly dating her husband.

REVIEW: Ignite by Rebecca Yarros

~OUR REVIEW~

Shel: Ignite, the newest release by Rebecca Yarros, is a quick but fulfilling read. If you haven't read the first book Point of Origin-- it's not necessary (we haven't read it yet and felt like we could understand how all the characters fit together and yet it wasn't so revealing that when we go back to read it, we'll feel like it's been spoiled). Court: This one was a lot of fun, and while we don't have to go back and re-read the other book available...I now realllllly want to, dang it!

Shel: So what made Ignite so satisfying?

Shel: Two characters who love and respect each other? check.
Two characters who would do anything for their families? check.
Two characters who have chemistry? check.
Some angst but not too much? check.
An ending that makes sense for the characters? check.

Court: Check, check, check, check...except...they still gave me heart palpitations guys...loyalty and family definitely mean something to the people in this story and it is inspiring even if it was to their detriment sometimes.

Shel: Avery and River --for as much as both of these characters had lived through--deserved each other and that HEA that neither of them felt they'd have with each other. They were both such good people for those they loved, and each other. (HOW THE HELL DID THEY NOT HAVE A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP FOR 7 YEARS? Rebecca Yarros you like to torture some characters, yo.). Court: Right? And, how did we have such a fulfilling story cram packed into a novella? I don't know, but Rebecca Yarros did it. It was complete without being too quick. The scenes seemed chosen precisely and not a moment was wasted to show us how they felt about each other, and their family, and even some secondary characters really helped bring this one home.

Shel: I also enjoyed the secondary characters and the way they were woven into the story and even more than that, the Alaskan and Coloradoan (did I just make up a word?) landscape that Yarros describes. The addition of both the characters and the landscape really rounded out this quick read and made it feel richer and more than the length would suggest.  Court: I like a lot when the landscape adds to the story so much that it is almost its own character, and I think she agrees with me!

Court: I highly recommend this one, and Rebecca nailed it again! We love her writing, and love her strong heroines and hard working heroes.

If you're looking for a quick and satisfying read, Ignite is a great choice. And if you want to know more read the synopsis below:

In Legacy, Colorado, I buried my father alongside his elite Hotshot team.
Ten years later, I’ve followed in his footsteps—fighting fires in the mountains of Alaska with my brother.
Amid the flames, nothing ignites me like Avery Claire.
She’s stubborn, strong, sexy as hell, and my best friend.
She also has no idea that I’m in love with her.
But Colorado is calling me home, needing every Legacy-born firefighter to successfully rebuild our fathers’ team.
One night will change everything between us,
But she’s tied to Alaska and my future is in Colorado.
Now I’m torn between what my honor demands,
And what my heart can’t live without.

Hey, y’all! It’s Nazarea. You know, that girl who writes romance and zombies and vampires and whatnot? N? Yes. MEEEEE. HI!

So y’all know N, the author and quirky fangirl. But did you know…. I have an alter ego? She doesn’t wear a superhero outfit, but she is pretty badass. In a geeky, fanfic writing, trashy TV watching, sort of way. Wait. Stop. Fanfiction? OOOOh, yes. Arei? My oh so awesome alter ego? Her super power is writing fanfiction. A freaking LOT of fanfiction. And I’m dragging her shy ass out of the closet and sharing it with you with A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT... And N + Arei are launching a freaking AWESOME new website!!!

ForeverFangirl.com

Here’s a little about what N + Arei say about their new project:

I’m choosing to be happy and healthy. Because on the days when depression is too real and anxiety is crippling (and lately, with the state of the world, that’s a lot of the days) losing myself in a story that has no rules and no expectations is fun.

Read More Here

Check out N + Arei and ForeverFangirl.com today. She’s got a lot of goodies over there and if you go here she’s talking about a new novel she’s publishing on Wattpad. And if you want to dabble before you commit—check out one of Arei’s fics here. (Warning. Sweet fluffy fanfiction about two hot actors.) Check it out and then come talk to me (both N + Arei) on Twitter and Facebook! I’d love to hear what you think and what fandom I just HAVE to dabble in next. <3

NazareaAndrews

Nazarea Andrews (N to almost everyone) is an avid reader and tends to write the stories she wants to read. Which means she writes everything from zombies and dystopia to contemporary love stories. When not writing, she can most often be found driving her kids to practice and burning dinner while she reads, or binging watching TV shows on Netflix. N loves chocolate, wine, and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids. She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, spoiled cat and overgrown dog. She is the author of World Without End series, Neverland Found, Edge of the Falls, and The University of Branton Series. Stop by her twitter (@NazareaAndrews) and tell her what fantastic book she should read next.

Blurb
The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn’t exactly make a good impression.
I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date.
He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice.
So I told him to mind his own damn business—his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business—and went back to my miserable date.
When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date.
I couldn’t help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room.  Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.
When the gorgeous stranger and his equally hot date suddenly appeared at our table, I thought he was going to rat me out.
But instead, he pretended we knew each other and joined us—telling elaborate, embarrassing stories about our fake childhood.
My date suddenly went from boring to bizarrely exciting.
When it was over and we parted ways, I thought about him more than I would ever admit, even though I knew I’d never see him again.
I mean, what were the chances I’d run into him again in a city with eight million people?
Then again…
What were the chances a month later he’d wind up being my new sexy boss?

bossman teaser 4.jpg

EXCERPT
“Sorry, I wasn’t looking where—”
I froze.
The sight of Chase standing there was almost enough to knock me over. I’d secretly hoped to see him, yet never thought I actually would. What are the chances? I did a double take, sure I was seeing things. But it was him all right, in the flesh. And what flesh it is. Standing there shirtless and wet—wearing nothing but a pair of low-slung swim trunks—he had me stuttering. Literally.
“Ch…Ch…Ch—” I couldn’t get the word out.
Of course, Chase didn’t miss a beat. He smirked and leaned in. “You do a cute train impression, Buttercup.”
He remembers me.
I shook my head, attempting to snap myself out of it. But it was no use. He was so tall, and I was so short, I had no choice but to stare at his body. Water trickled down his abs. I was mesmerized watching it speed up and slow down as it crossed the rippled lines of his six-pack. Damn.
I cleared my throat and finally spoke. “Chase.”
I was pretty freaking proud of myself for getting that much out. He had a towel slung around his neck and lifted it to dry off his dripping hair, revealing even more flesh. His pectoral muscles were carved and perfect. And—oh, my God…is that… Holy shit. It is. His nipples were cold and erect, and one of them was….was…pierced.
