Our Review:

Shel: I think I start off every post about Ketley Allison like this: "Poor Ketley, I've been harassing her via Twitter for days/weeks about the next installment of this series"..and it's true. At least once a week I'd go to Twitter to remind her that I desperately needed answers. She was so patient and kind and gracious and I'm forever grateful that she found us and loved us enough to humor us. Court: And here I am finalllly finishing this installment forever and a day later. But yes. That. Ketley is great. And this book is great. And I am gushy and grateful.

Shel: Enough of my gushing about Ketley, let's get down to business..the ending of the series. After the last book, I was on edge--WHO DID IT?!!! My theories ranged from logical to fantastical and everywhere in between and now that I know the answer...all I can say is...I KNEW IT. (even though I didn't). There was one scene in the very beginning of this series that always stuck with me as off and based on that, I had a tiny sliver of hope that I knew who was behind all of this..and I suppose 'hope' is the wrong word here..but there were certain characters I absolutely DID NOT want it to be. (I'm not making much sense here, am I?!). Let me just stop my weird rambling to say that I completely love how Ketley did this....even if I hate that it had to go down like it did. Court: NO. I completely agree. I am so sad and elated, and mad and in awe...and I just seriously cannot believe how everything went down, but I am so glad that a) we got allllllll of the answers to allllllll of our questions in this final part of the SNAPPED series by Ketley Allison, but b) I DIDN'T KNOW IT EITHER, but I too hoped that things would turn out the way that they did...but even different...because I am a sucker for days for certain things, and I am hanging on to those bitter feelings until the bitter end. And I'm not making sense...but you'll have to read it and THEN you can ask me what I mean.

Shel: This series is without a doubt one of my all time favorite serial reads. Ketley's writing and plotting and characterization and pacing were engrossing and had me begging for more after each installment. I cannot recommend this series highly enough and I cannot wait to see what she produces next. Please don't make us wait too long, Ketley! Court: Too true. The writing in this story is fast paced brilliance that had me hanging on to every word. There is truth to the feelings evoked, and I find that hard to do, especially in a novella serial...but I think that it came across beautifully, and the suspense was top notch. I hope that more people read this, and that Ketley goes far, and keeps writing, because she is so damn good at it! LOVE Snapped. Read it! Now. I demand it.

Book Two in the Consolation Duet
I fell in love with Liam only to be left shattered into a million pieces. Again. The idea of being without him cripples me but the reality is, he’s gone.

He doesn’t understand and I can’t make him.

If only he’d see the conviction behind my words—then he’d still be here.

Excerpt

Time isn’t something I ever thought much about.
It ebbs and flows, but it never changes. I can’t make it stop—no matter how much I want to. There’s no way to rewind the clock or halt it. In this moment, all I want is to make the world stop and go back to when I was happy and ready to tackle the world. Just two short minutes ago, there was no worry about how my day would go. I was going away with the man I love, the one who healed me. But time isn’t my friend. It slaps me in the face and laughs as I stand here wondering how the hell any of this is happening. I don’t want to move forward, and I sure as hell don’t want to slow it down.

TEASER TUESDAY: The Girl I was Before by Ginger Scott

THE GIRL I WAS BEFORE (Falling #3)
 NA Contemporary Romance
Scheduled to release: June 23, 2015

BLURB:
I’m the selfish one. I suppose that’s the nicest thing people say about me. I’ve heard the other things, too. “Paige Owens is a pretty girl with nothing else to offer. She’s just a good time at a party. She’s stupid, heartless, cold and useless. All she cares about is getting a guy to look at her. Why would anyone want to be her friend?”

Some of those things are true. Others were true. They’re all hurtful.

None of it matters.

I’m ready to make the hard choices. I’m ready to face the consequences. I’m ready to be the girl I was before, and I’m done being the one who lost her way.

I’m ready to become the girl Houston Orr sees when he looks at me.

Houston isn’t a star athlete. He doesn’t play in a band. He’s never going to be president, and his life is so far away from simple and easy it isn’t even funny. He wasn’t part of my plan. But I’m starting to think plans are overrated, and maybe our stories are what we make them. And mine depends entirely on me, and the choices I make…starting now.

Houston is my fairytale. He’s perfectly imperfect. He’s poetry and life. He’s truth and heartbreak, all rolled up in a tall body with dark hair, broad shoulders and green eyes that lull me into submission. He’s nothing I ever thought I wanted, but the very thing I need. He’s the only guy I’ve ever really loved, and he thinks I’m a princess. I fell into him, and now I’m holding on.

But sometimes life takes away our ability to choose. Sometimes…things aren’t in your control. Sometimes, it hurts to be selfless. My only hope is that when it comes time to choose, I get it right.

Welcome to my once upon a time and wish for happily ever after.

REVIEW: SEARCHING FOR PERFECT BY Jennifer Probst

The up-and-coming matchmaking agency Kinnections is the hottest thing to hit Verily, New York—just like Kennedy Ashe, social director for the service she owns with her two best girlfriends. A coach, consultant, and cheerleader rolled into one super-sizzling package, Kennedy creates dream dates, encourages singles to shine, and never refuses a challenge—not even Nate Ellison Raymond Dunkle, rocket scientist, nerd extraordinaire, and Kennedy’s newest client.

Kennedy vows to work her magic and transform this hot mess in a lab coat with a disastrous relationship track record into the most wanted man on the Verily dating scene. If only she could turn the wand on herself . . .

Though she radiates confidence and sex appeal, Kennedy harbors deep-seated insecurities from a tormented past and lifelong struggle with weight issues. When she realizes she and Nate are cut from the same cloth and might be perfect together, can Kennedy learn to let her heart lead the way? Or will her fears sentence her to the sidelines as Nate finds love—with someone else?

Shel: Book 2 in this series finds us with the women of the Kinnections agency and this time Kennedy and Ned/Nate is our primary couple. As with book 1, there's definitely some down right denial about the feelings that are completely obvious to us and all of the other characters in this novel and it takes a while for Kennedy to get with the program but luckily Nate is persistent and patient and wonderful and makes sure we get that HEA that we all feel is coming....but I've jumped ahead. Court: Yes, a bit, buuuutt....it is a journey back to a series and even "sister series" that we have loved before. Here's a little bit more to know:

Shel: Ned/Nate is one of the most adorable and clueless nerdboys I think I've ever met in a book. Luckily, Kennedy saves him from being a complete douche and he listens carefully and learns quickly and before I knew it, I thought he was incredibly clued in and just such a sincerely sweet guy (with a hotter than hell bedroom demeanor). Court: He has the bedroom skills down, but even I wanted to slap him by how he talks to women on his quest for the one. And like in the previous paragraph, his ideals about how he should treat women were flawed and over promoted. These people are not very open minded about aannyything, are they? Luckily for us, Jennifer knows how to reel us in, and keep us there even when the characters do questionable things.

Shel: Kennedy is deceptive in that she appears to be all put together but she's a hot mess of issues stemming from her childhood/teen years and her mess of a mother. Luckily for her, she has great friends and Ned/Nate who sees through all of the bullshit and shows her how she SHOULD be treated. Court: These parts were so hard to read, and then really make Kennedy from a shallow "seeming" person that won't take a chance on someone opposite from her, to a person who has overcome a lot of struggles in her life and has reasons to be flawed.

Shel: Watching their courtship was simultaneously funny and frustrating--funny because of how clueless Ned/Nate could be and frustrating for how much denial Kennedy was in. All in all, though, it was a quick read and gave us a look at Wolfe, whom I'm very intrigued by and can't wait to read ALLLLL about.  Court: Girrrl, I am so excited about the next book too...but this one was well worth the wait, and I am excited to see if the next girl goes down as hard as Kennedy did.

Review: Beneath This Mask by Meghan March

He loves me, and he doesn’t even know my real name.

The limelight that follows him could expose everything I’m hiding. But even knowing the risks, I can’t force myself to stay away.

I’m going to break his heart, but mine will shatter right along with it.

Will we lose it all when I reveal what’s beneath this mask?

Our Review--

Shel: I met the lovely Meghan March in January at a NoLa book signing and ever since I've been searching for a quick minute to read her series. This weekend I finally had the chance to start this series and it was a really quick read. I loved that it was set in NoLa and it is obvious that Meghan spent time making sure her street names and the various areas of New Orleans were factually correct--this is a HUGE deal for me. I also appreciated that she didn't make us southerners overly cliched or caricatures of who we really are. ...and of course you want to know about the story and writing, right?  Court: (She's right. It was a beautiful depiction and the setting was a huge part of the book, I felt...but if it had been wrong. Shelley would NOT have read this book...yo, that girl is a NOLA girl over there...watch out. She'll cut a bitch for getting her stomping grounds wrong...but it was great, and I heard no complaints from Shel.)

Shel: The story of Charlie and Simon is complicated...mainly by Charlie. She's hiding her identity because of her heinous parents (especially her father) and her father's crimes and while she's done nothing wrong, she isn't quite ready to live under the spotlight and pressure of being his daughter. Because of her new identity, she tends to keep to herself and the few people she's befriended..that is until Simon becomes smitten. As she spends more time with him, she has to make choices about if and when to trust him and there's definitely some push and pull here. To Simon's credit--he's a perfect gentleman and so generous with his patience and time...until he's not.  Court: RIGHT! I swooned a lot for swoony, gentlemanly, Simon. SWOONED so hard I almost fell off my bed. Because...he is the quintessential southern gentleman...until he's not in both good and bad ways. Boy has as big a temper as our heroine here, and it is sparks flying and fun watching the two of them try to dominate the other...also in a fun way. But the gloves come off on his being a gentleman when clothes come off...whew. Hot and steamy times ahead, y'all and it was great.

Shel: As the story progressed and we got to know more about these characters, I felt that the pacing and the dialogue and the prose started really coming together. There seemed to be less of the quintessential heroine/hero descriptions and internal monologues--something I noted at the beginning. I also felt the conversations seemed less rushed and the characters seemed more fleshed out than they seemed. Court: You hit the nail on the head, as always, friend. The beginning was the usual meanderings, but the thick of things, and especially the end surprised me. I've been devouring this book at break neck speed ally night...it was insane. After a few initial, awww, moments at the beginning which I surprisingly needed after the end of a long week...this was a really refreshingly good, feel good story...and I really loved it. I CANNOT WAIT TO DEVOUR BOOK TWO!

Shel: By the time we reached the big reveal, I was flipping pages quickly to see exactly how these characters would get their HEA. And having finished it, I definitely want to check out the next book to see where this series goes next. Court: Girl...me too. I mean, the heroes name is Constantine...and he tattoos...and they're both men in uniform, which helps along my yearly challenge numbers quite well. Winning on all counts = Meghan March and this series!

REVIEW: Never Never Part Two by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Never Never: Part Two  Synopsis:
Silas races against time as more truths unravel, while others twist tighter together. “Where are you, Charlie?”  Never Never: Part Two is the continuation of the Never Never series.

Shel: WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. Hmmm. Page 1 of this installment and ...

...so I just went with it, right? Court: Right!

Right.
Sort of.
I went with it and then I'd get super anxious. Why?
Because freaking Charlie was missing and Silas couldn't find her and I needed answers, like YESTERDAY. Court: *Pssst, isn't she hilarious. Answers? What are those! We aren't getting answers...this is only part 2...but it was sooooooooo fracking fun to read, y'all*

Where the hell is Charlie? What the hell is going on? WHO DID THIS?!!!! Did I get these answers? NOOOO. But, I have the utmost hope that we are finally going to get them. I am a broken record, I know.

The simple answer, without spoiling, is YES. Yes I got answers. But even more questions! Could we be more vague? I doubt it. But, y'all read this. Because the story telling is so good. I am so in love with these two authors right now. The writing is beautiful, and fluid, and I am so in love with Silas's character, but there is enough bad that these two are both almost our anti-esque characters that we know and love. We love to love people in books who do things that defy logic in their actions, but we root for them anyways. This is how I feel with these two. I think their choices have made some bad things happen, and I love trying to get to the bottom of why! But I didn't get all of the answers and I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS. And when I got to the last page and it ended? Welp. I had this reaction:

But not in a bad way..just in an anxious, I want answers, what's happening next kinda way. I am so ready for the next installment, but patience is a virtue. Right? RIGHT? SHIT!

So to sum up--

I was completely angst-ridden during my reading. Girl, I am up in the middle of the night!
I got answers. Yes.
I still have questions. Ditto.
I want to know more. Couldn't have said it better myself.
I love the Colleen + Tarryn paired writing. The two of them together is magic.
I am super excited about what's going to happen next. The grand finale will be grand.

AND....read this book or else..... YES! Yes! Yes! Read this series. It is quick. It is mostly painless. And you won't regret it!

In our review of book 1 I had predictions. I don't know if my brain will even function enough to let me predict..but....I suspect foul play..which isn't really a prediction is it?! I seriously don't know what or even how to predict what's coming next. It's a mystery and surprise and I really love that it's so unpredictable because it's rare, these days, to find this quality in books. It IS RARE to find something that intrigues us so. There is a lot of mystery, and I think that is what makes it so fun. We get so little for such a big reward, and I am feeling and wanting so many things right now that I CAN'T FREAKING TELL YOU because that would be a spoiler, and I'm supposed to avoid those, so I suppose that I can't freaking tell you. Shit. BUT, a couple of references to the authors other works made me smile, and I am so happy right now even if that cliffy was huge. Grand canyon huge. It was worth it!

Happy reading. Yes, yes!
