What happens when a boxer finds chemistry with a geek?

Parker Brown can’t believe she needs to hire a fake boyfriend. When she landed her dream job in renewable energy, she thought she’d be entering a world at the forefront of progressive thinking. But the head boss prefers to promote employees who are “settled.” Thankfully, she’s found the perfect candidate, a fellow intellectual looking for some quick cash. What Parker gets is his protective big brother—Rhys Morgan. The tall, muscled ex-boxer with a foul mouth shows up just as her boss does, and now she’s stuck with the manipulative jerk.
Responsibility weighs heavily on Rhys. Now permanently out of the ring, he’s trying to hold together his late father’s gym and keep his younger brother, Dean, on the straight and narrow. To save Dean from himself, Rhys takes his place, ready to give this society girl a piece of his mind. Instead, he finds an opportunity. Even though they can hardly stand each other, posing as Parker’s boyfriend is a win-win deal. She gets to keep her job, and he’ll charm her star-struck boss into sponsoring his gym.
Problem is, they can barely keep their hands off each other. And what started as an easy deal isn’t so easy anymore. Because what future can a rough ex-boxer, afraid to open his heart, and a polished society geek, who has sworn off real relationships, possibly have?
They say opposites attract. These opposites are about to combust on impact.

REVIEW: Discretion by Karina Halle

From New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle comes a delicious saga of wealth, luxury, and scandal—and the wicked secrets of success behind an envied family dynasty.

The Riviera means indulgence—if you’ve got money. For Sadie Reynolds, a down-on-her-luck student, the Riviera means dingy hostels and back streets. When a wrong turn puts her in jeopardy, the last thing she expects is to be saved by the most handsome stranger she’s ever locked eyes with. When she later wakes up in a luxury suite with a Mediterranean view, she’s in the tender care of her rescuer: Olivier Dumont, France’s most eligible bachelor, billionaire hotelier, and heir to the Dumont fashion fortune.

Olivier also owns his reputation for scandal. But Sadie is unlike any woman he’s ever met. Her humble persona and wild innocence promise real passion. He’s promising Sadie something too: anything she wants. From Bordeaux to Cannes to Paris, Sadie’s past in America is swept away and replaced with a fantasy too good to be true.

Pulled into Olivier’s orbit of wealth, glamour, and excess, Sadie discovers that the Dumont dynasty comes with a legacy of wicked secrets. And Olivier’s secrets may be the most damning of all…

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: Discretion is everything the blurb promises it will be: a fun, angsty, soap opera-ish escape. This fast paced novel features the perfect concoction of love and sex and intrigue--there are good guys and bad guys and a promise of several more book that will explore who is guilty of what. In this first stand alone novel we meet Sadie and Olivier--a couple whose story seems part fairy tale and part nightmare. Court: Yes, this is legit what I hope it a lot of people's dream fantasy...world travel = enough said, BUT this was a delight with all of the extra things we get as they get to know each other in all the ways. And...also, Karina Halle's writing, y'all...superb as always!

Shel: Sadie is the doing what many college kids dream about doing--backpacking through Europe--when a series of unfortunate events puts her in the path of Olivier. Olivier is living what to the outside world appears to be his best life when he happens upon Sadie...and thank goodness for him showing up right when she needed him. He saves her from a very bad situation and from that point on, their love story begins. It's a love story that's fast and feisty and filled with a lot of swoony romance from Olivier and sass from Sadie (I really liked her) and lots of mysterious and nefarious happenings with his sketchy family.  France is our backdrop which just seems to elevate the mystery and romance of it all...and man does Karina Halle have a way with describing places she obviously loves--she makes me want to visit every place she writes about. Court: I agree. I've probably said it too much at this point, but when an author is able to bring in the setting in such a low key but prominent way...I appreciate that more than I can say. I always want to feel enveloped in the story and picture what is happening...it just helps make the movie more clear in my mind, and Karina does have a special way with this technique. The setting is important and what happens with the characters is important.

Shel: I devoured this novel and am so very eager for the next book in the series; it looks to be equally fun, sexy, and will give us more clues as to what in the actual world is going on in the Dumont family. Pick up Discretion for a fun escape from the dog days of summer; we don't think you'll regret it (except that you'll want the next novel in your hands immediately). Court: NO JOKE! I do want it immediately. We got so much with this story, but we did get a lot of questions...the secondary characters are delish as well, and I could not get enough. I have to know more. And I have to believe that we'll get what we want by the end! HAVE TO! Killed me, in the best way, but read this asap.

REVIEW: Quiet Man by Kristen Ashley

We are beyond excited to be sharing this release from Kristen Ashley with you today! QUIET MAN is part of her Dream Man series and it is releasing as part of 1001 Dark Nights. It just went live today! Check out an excerpt and book trailer from the title below. Click here to grab your copy now.

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: As it always happens when I read a new Kristen Ashley novel, I devoured Quiet Man in record time and am now hankering to reread all of the Rock Chick and Dream Man series just to relive the joy that all of these characters give me.Quiet Man is the perfect mash-up of these worlds colliding--you get glances at many of the characters you loved from both series and a taste of something new and I'm here for it. I CANNOT WAIT to see how all of the men in Mo's life fall for the women Lottie finds for them 😂. Court: YES, I especially love appearances of Hawke and the Hot Bunch, so this was literally a dream come true! I hadn't per se forgotten my love, but I was not at all sad to be reminded how much this world gives me a good case of the swoons. I really, really, really loved Lottie, and I hope you'll read it to find out what is up as well!

Shel: Mo and Lottie's book, while a "novella" ..and truly for a Kristen Ashley novel it is novella link (for the rest of the world it's a full length novel)... it was the perfect balance of sweetness, action, and sexy times. The love that bloomed between these two happened as quickly as you'd expect when Rock Chicks and Commandos are involved and the angsty bits were contained to a minimum so it truly was a fun read filled with humor and a reminder of why we love this series so much. Both Lottie and Mo had vulnerability and strength and were such a great match for each other that I was relieved that there wasn't a prolonged angsty section (usually I'm all for it but these two just needed allll the happy times).  What Quiet Man really did for me, besides make me want to do an epic re-read, was get me super excited for the rest of this series to come out. I CANNOT WAIT. Court: They really did need all of the happy and sexy times. There was quite enough external action that I really loved how things developed between them. As usual, I didn't know quite what to expect when going in and I like it that way...but y'all...we get some Tex love in this one as well and absolutely cannot go wrong with that!

Shel: You guys, grab this novella and then carve out some time because I guarantee you you're gonna want to go and read up on all of the wonder and chaos that is the Rock Chicks, the Hot Bunch, and the Commandos.Court: Agreed. Can we go do that now, Shel? LOL! I also love this 1001 Dark Nights series, so you have so many Kristen Ashley titles AND the features of this novella series to introduce you to some really great authors. Check it out.

Even if that business means starting a family. The problem is, Lottie has a stalker. The really bad kind. The kind that means she needs a bodyguard. Enter Mo Morrison. Enormous. Scary. Quiet. Mo doesn’t say much, and Lottie’s used to getting attention. And she wants Mo’s attention. Badly. But Mo has a strict rule. If he’s guarding your body, that’s all he’s doing with it. However, the longer Mo has to keep Lottie safe, the faster he falls for the beautiful blonde who has it so together, she might even be able to tackle the demons he’s got in his head that just won’t die. But in the end, Lottie and Mo don’t only have to find some way to keep hands off until the threat is over, they have to negotiate the overprotective Hot Bunch, Lottie’s crazy stepdad, Tex, Mo’s crew of frat-boy commandos, not to mention his nutty sisters. All before Lottie finally gets her Dream Man. And Mo can lay claim to his Dream Girl. **Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. Excerpt:

He picked up the paper, turned it over and read it again.
It stated, plainly, he was fucked.
More alarmingly, it stated, chillingly, Mac was in danger.
This was a problem more than it was already a colossal motherfucking problem.
Any other one of his girls, he’d pick up the phone to Lee Nightingale, the man behind Nightingale Investigations, the commander of the baddest badass motherfuckers in Denver. He’d hand over this letter and he’d get this problem solved.
But Mac was Charlotte McAlister, Jet McAlister Chavez’s little sister. Jet was married to Eddie Chavez. Eddie was Lee’s best friend. And Jet worked for Indy, Lee’s wife, the Queen of the Rock Chicks, and thus Jet Chavez was a bona fide Rock Chick.
Mac might not be a card-carrying member of the Rock Chicks, mostly because she had a job where she worked nights, the time those crazy bitches instigated the most fucked-up of their varying antics. Though they weren’t averse to mornings and afternoons. It was just that the stun-gunnings, kidnappings and the like mostly took place at night, and Mac was busy then.
She was still a Rock Chick, or at least she was by association.
Considering the Rock Chick link and the blood ties to Jet, if Lee knew Mac was in danger, he’d tear the town apart to put a stop to it.
And Eddie…
Now Eddie, Smithie didn’t even want to think about it. The man was a cop. The shit Lee and his boys did with flair and a flagrant disregard to just about anything, Eddie could not do.
But Eddie wouldn’t blink at doing whatever he had to do to make his sister-in-law safe.
And the man had mouths to feed.
So yeah.
This was a problem even more than it already was a colossal motherfucking problem because Smithie couldn’t call Lee.
Which meant Smithie had to find a different set of badasses to deal with it.
His first call would normally be the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Mac wasn’t one of theirs, neither was Smithie, but they had ties to Lee, they could keep a secret, and they didn’t dick around when it came to women and their safety.
But they’d just come out of a war, and like any war, that had been some serious fucked-up shit.
They needed a breather.
Lee, and Chaos, also had ties to…
“Well, hell,” Smithie muttered, the words on the letter blurring, the sick feeling in the back of his throat easing.
He dropped the letter and picked up his cell.
If you couldn’t call a badass…
Then it was far from second best to call a commando.

About KRISTEN ASHLEY:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing’s changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

REVIEW: On the Corner of Love and Hate by Nina Bocci

For fans of Christina Lauren and Lauren Layne comes a delightfully sassy and sexy romance about a campaign manager who reluctantly works with the local Lothario to help revamp his image for the upcoming mayoral elections, only to discover that he’s hiding something that can turn both their lives upside down. What’s a campaign manager’s worst nightmare? OUR REVIEW:

Shel: I really enjoyed how long Bocci had Emma resist the feelings she had for Cooper. When I'm telling you this novel embraces the slow burn, we're talking s-l-o-w, but I liked it. Maybe it's because I'm petty and stubborn and when I'm hurt it takes me a while to get over it so I like to see that truly mirrored in other characters?! If you're the same, you'll like Emma. She was so oblivious to Cooper's feelings and resistant to the idea of giving him an inch that it takes a good long while for her to soften to him. She's straight up a hard ass and I loved her for it (and felt sorry for Cooper, once I got to know him better). When we got to that HEA, it was quick...maybe more of that please?!, and sweet after the long build up to get there.

Court: I am like you, girl. The slow burn was delicious, though as always I think the ending could've gave us a few more pages...we always want more, though! I really enjoyed the characters and the dynamic that their story is in. I love how much they love their town and honestly I wish my town had this kind of department and people working for it! It is a team that I would love to be a part of that for sure!

Shel: Another thing I enjoyed was what a boss bitch Emma was. She excelled at her job and her criticisms of the people who were slackers felt so accurate and spot on that I feel like Nina Bocci must have had some of those experiences, right? She nailed it-the frustration that pushes you to feel like you have to micromanage and take on too much because it's not getting done...that then turns you into a control freak that has to relearn how to delegate--totally recognizable responses for those of us who've had to live through that experience.

Court: I KNOW! I really enjoyed though as she grows and figures out her life and the direction she wants it to go in and just makes a decision and GOES for it! You can tell her friend's get her, and they accept her as she is and I loved that too!!

Shel: The revival of a precious small town also spoke to my heart in this novel. She wrote with such love, care, and vivid description that I found myself wanting to visit this town or maybe even move there. Could she bring Emma to life and have her make over my small town please? Court: YASSS! I completely agree...let's go, and get houses next door to each other! C'mon y'all!

Shel: The mayoral campaign, romance in a small town, the friends and family who make appearances, and all of the love and care in the details and characterization made On the Corner of Love and Hate a sweet, fun novel. It'll be interesting to see how the secondary characters find love in their novels and to hopefully get another look at Emma and Cooper when we all meet up again.

Court: I REALLY HOPE we get to see Nick and Henry fall in love...PLEASE Nina, let us see that! And like Shelley said get more Emma and Cooper...but honestly, I'd be most excited for Emma's parents!

REVIEW: The Obsession by Nikki Sloane

The Obsession - BT banner.jpg
The Obsession by Nikki Sloane
Release Date: August 13, 2019
TheObsesssion_Cover.jpg
The Obsession, the next installment in the scorching hot Filthy Rich Americans trilogy by USA Today bestselling author Nikki Sloane.
The Hale family is obsessed with status, power, and control. No problem is too big their money can’t solve.
Royce Hale manipulated me into giving him everything. My virginity. My hand in marriage. My heart.
And as soon as he got what he wanted, he callously sold me off for a cool ten million.
In the boardroom and the twisted game his family plays, he says the only rule is to win at all costs.
Yesterday I learned a painful lesson not to trust the prince of Cape Hill. Today I’ll destroy his carefully laid plans and show him just how badly he’s already lost.
All the money in the world won’t be able to stop me.

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: The second book in Filthy Rich Americans Series, The Obsession, did not disappoint. Ever since the jaw dropping ending of The Initiation, I’ve been eager to see what in the hell will happen next and I can confirm that Nikki Sloane continues to build my curiosity as she throws more twists and turns. I swear, every time I thought things were calming down and stabilizing, she’d amp up the insanity that is Macalister Hale and his deviousness. Court: I didn't think I could be more intrigued...but she definitely proved me wrong! The writing is SO GOOD! and kept me on the edge of my seat. The games these people play are crazy and the stakes are high, and we probably will never be able to predict exactly what will happen next, but I am just dead. Dead I tell you. And I cannot wait for the next one.

Shel: You’ll speed through these pages trying to find out what Royce is up to. I’m still not sure that I fully understand or know which direction he’s going in and if this novel is any indication, there will be a twist to what he’s up to, for sure. And what about Alice? And Macalister? And that ending? And how will Royce and Marist get their HEA?  Court: YES! We know a little bit more than we did, but with every answered question...there are even more that pop up. Romantic suspense is kind of my favorite, so I am impatiently waiting for the next book in this series. Filthy Rich, and just filthy...this one kept us on our toes.

Shel: I enjoyed Marist showing more of a backbone when it came to her situation and even though her overconfidence in her ability to outmaneuver the Hales was a dumb move on her part, I love that she didn’t just succumb to their will. I cannot wait to see if she comes back swinging and how Royce fights for their HEA. I hope we have a long juicy read for The Deception, with lots of intrigue and twists. Court: Yes. She's figuring out that she has to fight hard, but some of these people have been at this a lot longer than her. I really love her character development though, and that she isn't giving up quite so easily. Still rooting for her, even though some shit got cray cray! Loved this one.

Blog Tour teaser.jpg Excerpt:
Royce wasn’t amused. “What are you doing?” I’d run my palms up his spread thighs until I found what I wanted. He made a half-hearted attempt to push my hands away, but I was persistent, and he began to grow hard under my touch. He both did and didn’t want me to keep going. “I thought that wasn’t allowed.” I stroked the bulge thickening down one leg of his suit pants. “Technically, I only agreed not to while we’re at the house.” When I reached for his belt, his grip on my wrist was more serious. “My door’s not locked.” “But it’s closed.” There was office etiquette—a closed door was treated as a locked one. Plus, Royce was a Hale and sat on the board of directors. “Only someone with career suicide would walk in here.” I undid his belt buckle with one hand while cupping him with the other, and a nearly inaudible groan came from him. God, it was hot. He stared at me with his beautifully conflicted eyes, silently pleading for me to stop but also to hurry up already and get his zipper down. My unpracticed hands shook, but it was mostly with excitement. Outside the office window, sunlight bounced off the brownish-blue bay far below. He had Boston and his fiancée at his feet, and his fingers curled tight around his throne as I pulled him free from his pants. A big part of me was thrilled with this plan, no matter how risky it was. Macalister’s constant supervision and inappropriateness had left me feeling weak and powerless. I needed to take some control back. I’d push the rules just as I pushed Royce now. “There you go, Medusa,” he muttered. He tipped his head toward his lap and his rock-hard erection. “Turning me into stone again.” A half-laugh bubbled from my chest, but then I closed my hands around him and stroked downward. Last time I’d done this, he’d told me to do it like I meant it, and so I did now. I slid my firm grip up and down, wringing another moan from him. This was his purest self. The only time I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt he was being true. His body wouldn’t let him lie. He was breathing hard, and his maroon tie rode his heaving chest like it weighed fifty pounds. It was undeniable how we looked. The prince being serviced by one of his subjects. His heavy cock throbbed in my hands, and I relished the way it felt. So soft and yet hard. “Oh, fuck,” he said appreciatively, but then he glanced at his watch and torment twisted his face. “Fuck.” Rather than pick up the pace, I slowed my tempo. “You’re making me late.” An evil smile bloomed on my face. “Then go. I’m not making you stay.” “Oh, you aren’t, huh?” He gripped my hands and urged me to pump on him faster, both with his action and his furious eyes. “Harder,” he barked, “and faster. Finish what you started.” “I’ll do it how I want, thank you very much.”

Connect With Her: Website | Facebook | Instagram | Goodreads | Twitter | Bookbub

REVIEW: Coming Up Roses by Staci Hart

Everyone hates part of their job, and I hate Luke Bennet.

Coming Up Roses, an all-new must read enemies to lovers romantic comedy from Staci Hart is available now!

CUR-ebook

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: What do you get when you mix a person of optimism and hope and a person is a realist and runs on fear? You get Luke and Tess in Coming Up Roses, another great read written by Staci Hart. Court: Such a great read written, and it was a great novel right from the very first page!

Shel: While this novel definitely has some of the humor we've come to expect in Hart's novels, this one felt like it had less of that and more sweet romance, more examination of the inner workings of the two main characters, and was tinged with an overall sense of big romance. I really enjoyed the all the various facets of Luke and Tess and seeing each of them grow and learn as the story progressed. They seemed like such polar opposites that it was fun to see him try to charm her, her try to resist him, and then their sweet romance when he finally wore her down. Court: Yes! The almost enemies to friends to what will happen next for these two was a beautiful ride. I couldn't put the book down from the moment I started it, and devoured it whole. There was so much to absorb and I really enjoyed the nuances we got and the pace we got them. The writing was just so brilliant.

Shel: Additionally, Luke's family really rounded out the story. I liked the dynamic between the siblings and between the parents and the siblings and the parents. The Bennet family felt so warm and like the kind of family that anyone would love to be a part of. They ribbed each other, protected each other, and were so supportive of each other that part of this novel felt like a love letter to the family too.

Court: I agree, and the way that the entire family and secondary characters were brought in that it was my favorite kind of story. I love when the secondary characters are such a huge part of the big picture, and of course that means I am hoping and praying for more stories from this clan of wild and crazy Bennets'.

Shel: And obviously, I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about the flower shop and how much research and vision Staci Hart had when it came to making that her backdrop. I loved the entire concept of the store, the greenhouse, and the family business. I could totally envision the most adorable flower shop with the best curated flowers in town...and I wish I could visit it in real life. Court: UGH! YES! And New York (and my love for it) was felt through every single page too. I really was engrossed in this story for so many reasons, y'all! I highly recommend a pick up asap!

Shel: I'm hoping that this new book is the beginning of a brand new series about the Bennets so that I can not only see all of them fall in love, but I can keep tabs on how each of them are doing (because they now live in my heart and head). Court: 100% agree, I really hope we get the rest of the siblings stories as well..and wouldn't hate a little info on what's going on in Luke and Tess's world in the meantime.

Shel: Good read!

Everyone hates parts of their job.
Maybe it’s the paperwork. Maybe it’s the day-to-day grind. Maybe it’s that client who never knows what they want, or the guy who always cooks fish in the microwave.
But not me. I love every corner of the Longbourne Flower Shop, every flower, every petal, every stem. I love the greenhouse, and I love Mrs. Bennet, my boss. I love creating, and I love being a florist. I don’t hate anything at all.
Except for Luke Bennet.
The Bennet brothers have come home to help their mom save the flower shop, and Luke is at the helm. His smile tells a tale of lust, loose and easy. He moves with the grace of a predator, feral and wild. A thing unbridled, without rules or constraint.
When he comes home to save Longbourne, I almost can’t be mad at him.
Almost.
He doesn’t remember that night I’ll never forget. That kiss, touched with whiskey and fire. It branded me like a red-hot iron. But it meant nothing to him.
Everyone hates part of their job, and I hate Luke Bennet.
Because if I don’t, I’ll fall in love with him.

Excerpt:
I wanted to kiss Tess Monroe. I’d wanted to kiss her the second she walked into the shop a couple days ago, wearing overalls and a Cure T-shirt. I’d wanted to kiss her as I watched her scrub the wall with her little face wrinkled up in concentration. I’d wanted to kiss her when she fell off the ladder and into my arms. And all day today while we painted the shop, I only thought about one thing. I wanted to kiss her. And I was accustomed to getting what I wanted. “Did you hear me?” Kash asked impatiently. “Hmm?” He rolled his eyes, his long body stretched out on the bottom bunk in our old room. “Man, what’s with you?” “I’ve been scrubbing and painting the shop for two days. I’m tired.” “Right,” he said, “and the redhead in the overall shorts has nothing to do with it.” I leaned back in the wooden desk chair I’d taken up residence in, the hinge squeaking. “As if Tess Monroe would willingly give me the time of day.” He shrugged. “Seems to me like she’s given you the time every hour, on the hour, for two days. What’s with her? She was different today.” It was true. This morning, she’d walked into the shop, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to work with a smile on her face. She’d only insulted me seven times, and one of those was a backhanded compliment. My stats were down: the day before, it’d been twenty-three insults and a jab with a broom handle that I couldn’t be sure was accidental. Not that I was counting. “I dunno what’s gotten into her, but I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth. I’m just taking the boon and moving on.” “Man, she looked so cute with that bandana in her hair and paint on her nose. And her ass in those overalls…” He whistled up at my old bunk. I fought the urge to chuck my Batman paperweight at him. “So are you going after her or what?” Kash asked, smirking. “I just got her to quit treating me like a dog. Pretty sure anything more is off the table.” “Maybe I’ll go after her then. Think I’ve got a shot?” I snorted to cover my immediate fury at the thought. “She’s a girl with standards, Kash. If I don’t have a shot, you’ve got none in hell.” “Maybe she just needs somebody older. More mature.” “We were born in the same year, asshole.” “I’m just saying. Maybe she’s looking for stability. Everybody knows you’re about as stable as uranium.” “And you’re running your mouth like you want a foot in Uranus.” Kash laughed. “I’d love to see you try.” I eyed him. “You don’t actually like her, do you?” “Nah,” he said, smiling. “I just want you to admit you do.” A sigh of concession blew out of me, the pause filled with my thoughts. “We almost kissed yesterday,” I admitted. Kash sat up so fast, he thunked his head on the bottom bunk. “Goddammit—” He rubbed at his forehead “—Warn a guy before you go saying things like, I almost kissed Tess. I laughed openly at his misfortune, hoping it left a mark. “She fell off a ladder in storage, and I caught her. Topless.” His eyes bulged, hand still pressed to his forehead. “Tess was topless in storage?” “No, I was.” He rolled his eyes, chucking a pillow at me. I caught it midair and chucked it right back at him. “I’m surprised she didn’t deck you,” he said, fluffing the pillow before leaning back again. “Me too, if I’m being honest. She hates me. Hated me. Maybe still hates me a little.” “What’d you do to her?” he asked. At this point, the question was rhetorical—neither of us knew, no matter how many times we’d asked. “Who knows? But I think the last couple of days have helped my case. All I had to do was show up and not fuck up.” “Don’t worry. There’s still time,” he reassured me. “Trust me, I’m aware. I’ve been working on the installation for her in the back, and I’m both convinced I’m going to disappoint her and that I’ll knock her socks off.” “Or her bra. Think you can knock that off?” “If she were anybody else, I’d guarantee it. But Tess?” I made a resigned noise.77 He watched me for a second in that way he had about him, the quiet assessment that ran under his outward charm. It was a mask— that much I knew for a fact—armor to protect his soft spots. Everyone thought he was nothing but a girl-crazy flirt, just like me. But that was just how we liked it. Let them think we were empty. There was comfort in being underestimated. We were constantly set to impress everyone.
About Staci
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey.
From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

REVIEW: Feast of Sparks by Sierra Simone

FEAST OF SPARKS (Thornchapel #2) by Sierra Simone Release Date: August 1st Cover Designer: Hang Le Photographer: Regina Wamba

AVAILABLE NOW!!

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: Whattheeverlovingfuck, SIERRA SIMONE. I am shooketh. The end of Feast of Sparks, y'all.

Oh My God Omg GIF

Shel: And now we have to wait until .... not soon enough to get more answers?!?!?!! I'm gonna tear that book up when it hits my Kindle because OHMYGOD this book was so good and the ending was that good!!! I mean I suspected but to have what I suspected confirmed?! So good. Court: Girl, sames. I keep thinking I can't be any more blown away by Sierra Simone's writing and how she has the most beautiful ability to weave a very intricately thought out story and then I read the next book, and she one-ups herself. It is amazing how deep and intriguing this series is. I cannot get enough.

Shel: To back track a little, Feast of Sparks picks up immediately after A Lesson in Thorns and takes us up to the very next ritual. While the main focus is on the history of St. Sebastian and Auden, Poe, Delphine, Rebecca and Becket are never too far from the narrative and each have chapters that continue to delve into their characters more. And like the first book in this series, Feast of Sparks weaves mythology and religion and the various seasonal rituals and rights together in a way that enhances and mimics the stories of these characters. It's just a guess but I bet the middle books in the series can be challenging to write because they're not the beginning or the ending; this book didn't feel like that. It didn't lag or feel unnecessary. It furthered the plot and deepened the characters and continued to build on the broodiness of the first book. Court: It did. The web is even more tangled now, and the setting...the setting being this living and breathing thing that makes the characters acknowledge it is amazing too. I love all of these friends, and as we get to know them more and more and get more and more of the past to blend with the present and get a few answers and even more questions, just gah. So. Great.

Shel: The atmosphere is at times moody (I wanted it to be winter so that I could curl up with some tea and a roaring fire) and full of desire and by the end it's full of hope and spring and it's shiny and fresh and new and then you get to the last page and  Court: Dude. Moody is a good word. As is mind blowing. This one sticks with you with their hurts and pleasures and successes and secrets. All wrapped up. Whew.

Shel: the novel kicks it up a notch and now you have to wait and suffer through wondering what Sierra Simone has up her sleeve to torture these characters with next. I CANNOT WAIT to see where she goes next. I know it'll be so good and I feel like it's gonna have some angst! Court: Lots of angst, and for once in my life I am welcoming it with open arms. Nothing is easy with these characters, and honestly...that is a good thing!

Shel: Sierra Simone did not tell a lie when she said she put St. Sebastian through hell (as well as Auden, while also sexually frustrating Poe).  This poor guy is owed a huge HEA and I cannot wait to see how that goes down. Court: Living up to his name and his life has not been easy has it...I love how much in his head we are for this one. It's exhilarating.

Shel: If you're new to this series, grab book one and throw all your plans to the side--because you won't do anything but read once you start. Court: Agreed. I highly recommend it as soon as possible!

Blurb: I’m an outcast and a loner, named for death itself. Fate wasn’t supposed to have plans for me.
But then she came back—the girl I once kissed in a thorn-covered chapel in the woods. She came back, and I could no more resist her than I could pry out my own heart. And by some trick of fate, she wants me as much as I want her. The only problem? She also wants the man who owns Thornchapel, Auden Guest.
And so do I.
Eight years ago, I did something to Auden, something terrible. He hurt me back the only way he knew how, and so here we are: our hatred seasoned with pain and my loneliness seasoned with longing. The only thing we can agree on is Proserpina Markham, and she wants us to find a way to be together—all three of us.
If Auden wants to earn her as his submissive, then he has to earn me as well.
But with the discovery of bones behind the altar and the carnal revel of Beltane fast approaching, it’s becoming clear that Thornchapel’s secrets are much deeper and older than any of us could have ever guessed. And no matter how bright and merry a feast of sparks may be, it’s always followed by ashes.
And darkness.

Excerpt: Shame, hot and prickling, needles everywhere at my face and chest and belly as I begin to bend down to the floor. The cool air that caresses my pussy is now everywhere as the position begins to expose my most secret flesh, and there’s no pretending away the reality of what I’m doing. I’m doing something I’ve never done before, I’m offering up the filthiest part of me for inspection, and despite everything the three of us have shared in the past twenty-four hours, I’m flooded with shame. It’s real shame now, not play-shame, and my safe word floats to the top of my mind, a buoy in the clear waters.
Convivificat.
I don’t want to safe out right now, I’m nowhere near the edge, but it’s nice to have it there all the same. Reassuring. There’s nothing they can do that I can’t stop.
And anyway, this is who I am—who I’ve been growing into ever since I found the words to define it.

About the Author: Sierra Simone is a USA Today Bestselling former librarian (who spent too much time reading romance novels at the information desk.) She lives with her husband and family in Kansas City.
