Our Review:
Shel: I'm fairly certain that everything you've seen about Broken Knight involves words like "emotional", "intense" or texts with crying emojis and honestly that's all true. The story of Luna and Knight is one of misunderstandings, miscommunications or lack of communication, and heartbreak...again and again and again. Court: It is. That is so like life when we all think we know best, and don't effectively communicate with the people we love. There are so many things about this novel that will frustrate the crap out of you, but these characters that LJ Shen has given us are beautifully broken, and I could not get enough. This book is brilliant, and a continuation in this world that I didn't know I needed. I heal from these types of books, which might sound crazy, but in all of the hard things to read this one is beautiful in how unexpected it was for me. I expected it to be a great book, but what we got was so much more brilliant than that...and I hate that I can't explicitly tell you why! You just have to read it!
Shel: Why in the world would anyone willingly put themselves through that? Because these characters are exactly the ones you want to end up together. They're perfect for each other. Totally sweet on and to each other (how Knight dotes on her in the beginning and how she takes care of him at the end) and you know that the ending is going to make those tears all go away ...true story!
Court: Yes. I love that we learn of their journey from when they are small children, and how we can take this book as a standalone for their time period, but also bring things that we had questions about from the original series about their parents. Knight is a complicated fellow, but I love that Luna was given the room to grow and find herself in a way that we would've never anticipated. Both of their character growth was painful, but gosh isn't that what being 17 and 18 years old is about? This nailed it, and I am so in love with this series and story.
Shel: Plus, in the reading of their story you get more about their parents and their peers and let me tell you--those stories are quite compelling! Court: It is. I died and was brought back to life by this story. Emotionally slayed doesn't even begin to cover it, but I have no regrets (and nor should you) for reading it.
Shel: I'm eager to get swept away in another #tothole love story and anything else LJ Shen wants to deliver to us--her novels are the perfect escape. Court: Their lives are definitely larger than life, but this is a series I never want to end. I love living in these characters world, and learning more! Just gimme, gimme, gimme all the #tothole things! LJ Shen is a phenomenal writer, and we're so glad we found her!
Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.
