REVIEW: Good Boy by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: I'm new to the boys in Good Boy though I'm sure many fans will recognize many of the characters from Him  and Us. This particular novel starts with the wedding of Jamie and Wes (or as Blake calls them Wesmie, lol) but the main focus of this novel is Jess and Blake and ohmygod it's so funny. Honestly, at first I wasn't sure what to think--Blake was so over the top ridiculous and Jess was so frazzled--but as my reading continued, giggles would come bubbling out of me and I'm pretty sure I snort-laughed at least once and everything just worked. Good Boy is a great blend of hilarity and ridiculousness, interesting subplots and secondary characters, and low angst; plus, I know readers who loved Jamie and Wes will love seeing what they're up to now. And I think it's only fair to give more credit to Blake than I initially did--there's more to him that initially meets the eye--and Jess is his perfect match in the way she is so dead pan with him; they were a lot of fun to read and to read about a relationship that went from a random hook up to unconventional 'courtship' to sweet and heartwarming. Court: I think that everyone should try to bring out the zest of their like a little bit like our friend Blake. He's hysterical. Doesn't care what people think. Fiercely loyal. And just really a great character for us to get to know. Even if he wasn't a hot hockey play, he is the total package - and I love the antics he gets up to while trying to get Jess to agree with us. They're complete and utter opposites, and it definitely was perfect for the two of them. I enjoyed the frenemies to friends to maybe will they or won't they aspect that is finessed perfectly in this story. I only let my nurse snob self come out for a second or two in there, but the humor and these ladies wonderful writing kept me invested and I let it go!

Shel: I know readers who need an escape from deep and serious reads, who want a laugh out loud Saturday read, or are loyal fans to the authors and their characters will enjoy this low-angst, laugh out loud novel. Court: It is perfect for that, but it has just enough serious times (like when Jess has so much self doubt from being overshadowed by her siblings that she needs a little help believing in herself) that I related to on such a huge level. I get it. Finding yourself is really, really hard...and she's definitely tried all of the wrong things to find it. I really liked how much these two brought out in each other - and I liked how we were able to see characters past and how they're doing, I also was enjoyed a look at some people I bet might just have a book coming out in the future (OR I just hope!). Great read, and highly recommended! This writing duo rocks!

SYNOPSIS:

GOOD BOY GR LINK

Hosting her brother’s wedding for an MVP guest list is the challenge of Jess Canning’s life. Already the family screw-up, she can’t afford to fail. And nobody (nobody!) can learn of the colossal mistake she made with the best man during a weak moment last spring. It was wrong, and there will not be a repeat. Absolutely not. Even if he is the sexiest thing on two legs.

Blake Riley sees the wedding as fate’s gift to him. Jess is the maid of honor and he’s the best man? Let the games begin. So what if he’s facing a little (fine, a lot) of resistance? He just needs to convince the stubborn blonde that he’s really a good boy with a bad rap. Luckily, every professional hockey player knows that you’ve got to make an effort if you want to score.

But Jess has more pressing issues to deal with than sexy-times with a giant man-child. Such as: Will the ceremony start on time, even though someone got grandma drunk? Does glitter ever belong at a wedding? And is it wrong to murder the best man?

Caution: May cause accidental aspiration of tea or coffee. Do not read in a public place where loud laughter is inappropriate. Contains hot but hilarious hockey players, puppy cuddling and a snarky pair of underwear

COVER REVEAL: Defy by L.J. Shen

Title: Defy
Series: Sinners of Saints #0.5
Author: L.J Shen
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 3, 2017
My name is Melody Greene, and I have a confession to make.

I slept with my student, a senior in high school.

Multiple times.

I had multiple orgasms.
In multiple positions.
I slept with my student and I enjoyed it.
I slept with my student and I’d do it all over again if I could turn back time.
My name is Melody Greene, and I got kicked out of my position as a teacher and did my walk of shame a la Cersei Lannister from the principal’s office, minutes after said principal threatened to call the cops on me.
My name is Melody Greene, and I did something bad because it made me feel good.
Here is why it was totally worth it.
Defy is a smutty, insta-love, insta-lust short novella. Defy is a prequel to Vicious (Sinners of Saint #1). It is recommended, but unnecessary, to read Defy before reading Vicious.

L.J. Shen resides in sunny California with her husband, son, chubby cat and wild, wild dreams.
Her passion is to write badass stories, sushi, UFC and her awesome family and friends (not in this order, though. Obviously, sushi comes before writing. Oh, and also the family part.)

She spend the first half of her twenties traveling the world and is now paying all the fun with extra shifts in front of her MacBook. Feel free to contact her on her Facebook page. She loves to hear from her readers.

A BOY LIKE YOU
NA Contemporary Romance-Stand Alone
Scheduled to release: March 3, 2017

BLURB:
They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed
to save, but I know who saved me.

We were kids. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me
from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a
blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe.

And then he disappeared.

Now I’m seventeen. I’m not a kid anymore. I haven’t been for years. While
death didn’t take me that day, the things that happened left me with
scars—the kind that robbed me of everything I once loved and drove me into
darkness. But more than anything else, that day—and every day since—has
taken away my desire to dream.

I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things—they
weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed…until the new boy.

He’s nothing like the old boy. He’s taller and older. His hair is longer,
and his body is lean—strong and ready for anything. I don’t feel sorry for
him. And sometimes, I hate him. He challenges me. From the moment I first
saw him standing there on the baseball field, he pushed me—his eyes
constantly questioning, doubting…daring. Still, something about him—it
feels…familiar.

He says his name is Wes. But I can’t help but feel like he’s someone else.
Someone from my past. Someone who’s come back to save me.

This time, though, he’s too late. Josselyn Winters, the girl he once knew,
is gone. I am the threat; I am my worst enemy. And he can’t save me from
myself.

Preppy returns in Preppy Part Two by T.M. Frazier.

NOW LIVE!

Preppy Two.jpg

Full Blurb
Preppy finds himself back in a world he once loved, but no longer recognizes. His dim smile can’t hide his inner turmoil and the people he views as family all suddenly feel like polite strangers.

Except for one person. A girl with dark eyes and even darker hair.
A girl who isn’t even an option.

At least, not anymore.

Dre can’t decide who she’s going to listen to. Her heart, her head, or her body. Because two out of those three things have her heading right back to Logan’s Beach. Closure is what she tells herself she’s seeking, but when she unlocks doors that were never meant to be opened she soon discovers that when it comes to Samuel Clearwater, closure might NEVER be an option.

This is book six in the King Series and the second part of Preppy and Dre's story.

PREPPY PART TWO TEASER.jpg

EXCERPT

“Oh yeah?” Preppy asked, taking a step forward, crowding me in, staring deep into my eyes with an intensity that had me biting down hard on my lower lip. “Do YOU like a clean look, Doc? Or do you like it dirty? Beards. Tattoos…scars?”
Yes, I like it dirty. So dirty.
I was stunned into silence. Preppy's proximity was fucking with my brain, and I was afraid I was going to blurt out something that would dig me a deeper hole than I’d already dug for myself.  I opened my mouth to answer, but I couldn’t get the words out. Not like I needed to. Preppy answered for me. “If I remember correctly, you like it dirty. Real fucking dirty.”
He took another step. “Remember that first time? In the field? By the train tracks? Remember how I pulled your hair while I fucked you from behind and stretched you open? Remember how it felt to have me moving inside of you? How it felt when you came and screamed in my fucking ear? I do. I remember. Thought of that scream every fucking day since. It was deafening.” He chuckled and pressed his teeth against his bottom lip. He groaned, the sound shot straight to my pussy. “I can still fucking hear it now.”
So can I.
The hair on the back of my neck stood on end. “What are you doing?” I asked, trying to step around him, but he pressed his hands against the wall, caging me in. The warmth of his chest radiated onto mine. I tried to look anywhere but into his eyes, afraid of what I might see, but there wasn’t anywhere else to look. He moved even closer.
Preppy pressed his knee between my thighs, parting my legs. “Me?” he asked, with mock innocence. “I’m just reminiscing with an old friend.”
“This doesn’t feel like just reminiscing."
He stared intensely into my eyes. “No, not YET it doesn’t.” He grinned. “But it fucking will. Soon.”

COVER REVEAL: A Thousand Letters by Staci Hart

Title: A Thousand Letters
Author: Staci Hart
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Design: Staci Hart
Release Date: February 9, 2017

Blurb

Sometimes your life is split by a single decision.

I’ve spent every day of the last seven years regretting mine: he left, and I didn’t follow. A thousand letters went unanswered, my words like petals in the wind, spinning away into nothing, taking me with them.

But now he’s back.

I barely recognize the man he’s become, but I can still see a glimmer of the boy who asked me to be his forever, the boy I walked away from when I was young and afraid.

Maybe if he’d come home under better circumstances, he could speak to me without anger in his voice. Maybe if I’d said yes all those years ago, he’d look at me without the weight of rejection in his eyes. Maybe if things were different, we would have had a chance.

One regretted decision sent him away. One painful journey bought him back to me. I only wish I could keep him.

*A contemporary romance inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion*

REVIEW + EXCERPT: Real Good Love by Meghan March

Real duet complete series

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: After the ending in Real Good Man I was dying to see what the hell was going on with Banner and Logan; luckily I didn't have to wait long. The answers to all things Banner and Logan come fast and easy in Real Good Love and when I wasn't laughing, I was swooning (or fanning myself from the hotness factor!). Court: That is so true. I was nervous with how the first part ended, but now I know I shouldn't have been. Meghan March has our backs, and I guess I panicked a little. This time around, even though the sexy times are plenty and fun...there is a lot more going on in their sleepy little Kentucky town - and people are becoming suspects...Banner is getting the more of the mean girl treatment from local townsfolk, and boy did I just want them to hideaway together and forget all the rest! But...life must go on, and the journey to their happy ending was a fun one!

Shel: These two are the best couple and I loved how they handled everything that came their way from geographical distance to small town shenanigans and so much more. Thank you, Meghan March, for giving us a fun read that didn't kill us with too much angst or mystery--it had a nice balance of everything: sweetness, sexiness, humor, twists, and romance; what a great weekend read. Court: And are you as interested as me in the other characters! I am hoping beyond all hope that maybe another character or two get their own book ---maybe a country star named who shall remain nameless at this time. All I know is...I got some Meghan March books to read (that I own...I know) so y'all have fun with this one!

From USA Today bestselling author Meghan March comes a sexy new duet with a hero you won't want to miss. I’ve had my fair share of bad boys, but nothing prepared me for what it was like to be with a real good man. Logan Brantley changed everything. Somewhere along the way, what started as a fling became the best part of my life. He makes me want all the things I’ve never had, like forever and happily ever after, but nothing worth having comes easily. Everyone is betting on us to fail, but I’m ready to fight for this real good love.   Real Good Love is the conclusion of the Real Duet and should be read following Real Good Man.

I’m a woman on a mission when I step off my last flight at six o’clock at night, annoyed it took me an entire freaking day to get here since I made my plans at the last minute. As soon as I leave the rental car desk, I’m headed for my first destination. Logan’s shop. He’s never going to know what hit him. My skirt is short, my heels are tall, and my hair, skin, and nails are perfect from the pampering I managed to sneak in this week. I pull into the parking lot an hour and a half later, mostly because I was so busy singing along to every kick-ass female anthem on my playlist that I missed the turn and went fifteen miles in the wrong direction. But no one needs to know that little detail. The lights are still on, and Logan’s truck is parked in its normal spot alongside the building. No other cars remain in the lot. I pull out my phone and switch it out of airplane mode. I told myself I kept it there all day because I was worried about the safety of my flights and obviously because of the FAA regulations, but that’s total bull. I didn’t trust myself not to answer what must be at least a few messages from Logan. I wanted this to be a surprise. Like when Logan thought I might be pregnant, this is a discussion that needs to happen in person. A few text messages pop up from him immediately, and they’re progressively more . . . let’s call it assertive. My Sexy Man: Bruce, call me. My Sexy Man: Seriously, babe. Call me. My Sexy Man: CALL ME. My Sexy Man: This radio silence shit will not fly. Call me, Bruce. My Sexy Man: Banner Regent, don’t even try to dodge me. I know where you are, and I will come to you and show you how a real man handles this situation.   A smile spreads over my face. I’ve come to terms with a few things in the last twenty-four hours, and one of them is that I don’t care if I’m the first one to say those words I’ve been holding back. I love Logan Brantley, and I’m not going to let another day go by without telling him. To his face. After I park, I slide out of the car, careful not to pull a Britney and flash anyone my vag because I’m going commando under this skirt, and strut my ass up to the entrance. I push on the door that opens into the waiting room, but it doesn’t budge. Locked. Well, dammit, that’s not part of my plan. I bang on it, but no one comes. The beat of whatever rock song he’s listening to is thumping through the walls. I pull my phone out of my wristlet and text him back. Banner: Open the damn door. A response pops up in seconds. My Sexy Man: What door? Banner: I’m waiting.
  real-good-man-amazon
From USA Today bestselling author Meghan March comes a sexy new duet. We've all had the bad boys, now it's time for a Real Good Man. Fall for a woman over text messages? No way in hell. Reality can never be as good at the fantasy, right? Wrong. It’s better. Banner Regent is smart, funny, and she’s so far out of my league, she might as well be royalty. I’m a mechanic from Kentucky. She’s a New York City party girl. We were never supposed to meet, but one text started something neither of us saw coming. How do you seduce the woman who already has everything? Show her what it’s like to be with a real good man.   Real Good Man is book one of the Real Duet. Logan and Banner's story will conclude in Real Good Love, releasing January 17, 2017. iBooks | Amazon US | Amazon UK | Amazon AU | Amazon CA | Kobo | Google Play | Audible | Paperback   Real Duet masterpiece blue
