REVIEW: Between Shadows by Chanel Cleeton

A sexy new thriller about love and revenge from the author of the Capital Confessions and International School series…

X lives by three rules: Show no weakness. Trust no one. Don’t get caught. She lives by the rules they gave her.

The Academy—set in London, shrouded in secrecy—it trains spies, computer experts, and assassins. Their mission? Dispensing justice and altering the course of world politics. Or so they think. In a world where secrets are weapons and some kills are impossible to forget, everything X thought she knew about her life is about to change.

They taught her to fight. To blend into the shadows like a ghost, to operate on the fringes of society, to change her identity with ease. They taught her to kill.

She’ll need every skill they taught her, to stay alive.

Shel: I'm completely new to Chanel Cleeton but after this novel, I am most definitely going to read her other books. This novel, Between Shadows, was exactly what I needed; it has a badass heroine and a page turning plot that kept me on my toes wondering exactly what was going to happen next. Cleeton does a really good job of weaving pertinent bits of X and Luke's past into their current situation so that just when you're starting to wonder about a flashback or a connection, you have an answer or more of a hint to an answer; it's like there's lots of 'good' tension throughout. Luke and X sizzle on the page and their love/hate/trust/suspicion of each other amps everything up a notch.

Court: Gosh, I really loved this book. Shelley demanded I read it, and when that happens...well, you see the results. I read it! and I loved it! Chanel Cleeton is a new one for us, but definitely well worth the time guys!  From page one...when we find out just what kind of assassin X is...well, the race is on. The plot is well written and fast paced, and you don't know who to trust and who is good. The fear and isolation that is instilled in these kids by The Academy bleeds through to us, and it made me doubt any of the information we got! The suspense was thick!

Shel: I asked on Twitter about the rest of the books in this series and she said
Shel: And now I'm so intrigued. The ending felt finished-ish for me. Like X and Luke definitely had an ending but I wanted another few chapters (book) of how they were going to move forward. I'm hopeful that the next books will either return to their story or give us an idea of what they're up to? Whether or not that happens, I know that I will absolutely be reading the next books to see what happens with Ares and all of the assassins. Court: I honestly felt this installment was very James Bond-ish for them. This arc is complete, but we still have so many questions! I can't wait to see what happens next. And you're right. Whoever it is about, we will definitely be reading it...and ready! (P.S. I read that teaser at the end for an upcoming book about fighter pilots...and gimmeeeeee! I am so excited!)

Shel: If you're looking for a fast paced thriller, with a side of steamy romance, I'd definitely suggest that you pick this one up. Court: Indeed. The suspense is high. The alpha female loveliness is epic. And we have main characters who spice up our life, and theirs in the best way. I loved this book!
