REVIEW: SAVING QUINTON BY JESSICA SORENSEN (NOVA #2)

Nova Reed can't forget him-Quinton Carter, the boy with the honey-brown eyes who made her realize she deserved more than an empty life. His pain was so similar to her own. But Nova has been coming to terms with her past and healing, while Quinton is out there somewhere, sinking deeper. She's determined to find him and help him . . . before it's too late.

Nova has haunted his dreams for nearly a year-but Quinton never thought a sweet, kind person like her would care enough about a person like him. To Quinton, a dark, dangerous life is exactly what he deserves. And Nova has no place in it. But Nova has followed him to Las Vegas, and now he must do whatever it takes to keep her away, to maintain his self-imposed punishment for the unforgivable things he's done. But there's one flaw in his plan: Nova isn't going anywhere . . .

OUR REVIEW
Shel: Honestly I have a love/hate relationship with this series. It just hurts so damn good...you know? In almost every chapter I wanted to shake some sense into either Nova or Quinton..sometimes both, AT THE SAME TIME. Court: They killed me too. But the angst. It hurts so good. We can't look away. I devoured this book!

Shel: Why?

Shel: Um, because their insistence on doing dumbass things. Court: That does sum it up.

Shel: Like what? Court: Yes, Shel. Like what?

Shel: Oh..well Nova thinks she can save Quinton from himself (and his drug addiction). HOW? um..good question. Let's just say she's a wee bit naive and under-prepared for how to handle this situation. Court: She was. Because it is so dang hard to help people when they don't have any desire to stop what they're doing. Which is why addiction is so hard to overcome. You have to want it. Did Quinton want it? Hell no.

Shel: ..and Quinton? Well...he's wallowing in his suffering, even though he's trying to numb himself and it's his wallowing and douchebag moves because of the wallowing/drugs that make me want to smack him (and then pack his ass up and send him straight to rehab). Court: EXACTLY! Quinton, oh Quinton. As mad as he made me, I needed to snuggle him a bit. Show him some love. Because he was about as low as we've ever seen any of Jessica Sorensen's characters be, and trust us, that is pretty damn low.

Shel: But isn't he allowed to feel bad for what's happened? Well duh. But BIG PICTURE, QUINTON..dude, let's look at the big picture. Step outside of yourself for just a minute and FEEL it all, give yourself permission to feel your feelings ...and get some damn help. Court: 1) I love that we seem to be having a mini therapy session right here. 2) OMIGAH, this is so true. His ideals were flawed. And while I haven't been through these dark and twisty things, I feel like his self blame takes my emo-ness even to a new level.

Shel: And isn't it honorable that Nova wants to help? Sure. But she has no idea what the hell she's doing and how dangerous her plans are or could be. Court: Having worked on the inpatient detox floor, I cannot tell you how true these words are.

Shel: So, as you can see..I was conflicted. DYING, actually, if you read my texts to Courtney. And to make matters worse, Delilah, Dylan, Tristan, Tristan's parents, and some junkies make my ragey moments come more often than I'd like. (There were some bright spots--Nova's mom and Lea -who made lots of sense and were super helpful). Court: Uhm hmmm. They were very hard to like, and keep rooting for; these characters. I had my share of emotional messages while reading this, and I can't even describe how much all of the emotions made my heart explode. Every feeling these characters have...we get to see them, every single time we're in their POV. And it hurts. And I can see how conflicted they are, and steadfast they are in their desire to do what "they" think is right. And it is soooooo hard. But I couldn't put this book down.

Shel: Overall, I was happy to see how far Nova had come and sadden to see how low Quinton had sunk. And now? Now I'm excited that I have book 3 and I can see what happens next...just have to figure out how to sneak it in my reading schedule. SHHHH..don't tell Court. Court: Hahaha. I can't wait to read the next one either. CANNOT wait. So, I may not! haha.

Shelley: 4 stars
Courtney: 5 stars
