BLURB:
Kensington Worth had a vision for her senior year. It involved her best friends, her posh private school in downtown Chicago and time alone with her piano until her audition was perfected, a guaranteed ticket into the best music programs in the world.

Instead, a nightmare took over.

It didn’t happen all at once, but her life unraveled quickly—a tiny thread that evil somehow kept pulling until everything precious was taken from her. She was suddenly living miles away from her old life, trapped in an existence she didn’t choose—one determined to destroy her from the inside, leaving only hate and anger behind. It didn’t help that her neighbor, the one whose eyes held danger, was enjoying every second of her fall.

Owen Harper was trouble, his heart wild and his past the kind that’s spoken about in whispers. And somehow, his path was always intertwined with Kensington’s, every interaction crushing her, ruining her hope for any future better than her now. Sometimes, though, what everyone warns is trouble, is exactly what the heart needs. Owen Harper was consumed with darkness, and it held onto his soul for years. When Kensington looked at him, she saw a boy who’d gotten good at taking others down when they threatened his carefully balanced life. But the more she looked, the more she saw other things too—good things…things to admire.

Things…to love. Things that made her want to be reckless.

And those things…they were the scariest of all.

Court: You know that feeling you get when you read something that just seriously touches your heart? Well. I had that. I had lots of heart clenching moments, from the very get go with this book...to the point where I had to stop after the prologue and harass Ginger for already making me feel something....but, that is what Ginger does. She makes us feel a lot of emotions reading her stories, and the nostalgia I felt while reading this is making this book stick with me like glue. Shel: I know, right? Ginger writes the BEST prologues and this one is absolutely no exception. The second I read it, I was hooked. And broken. And curious.

Court: Kensington...or Kenny, as I liked to call her, or Kensi/Kens are her friends like to call her has moved to a new town. New school. New friends. Seemingly new parents. etc and so forth. She realizes quickly that she has also moved in next door to the town' s resident bad boy. Kensi early on seems like she is having a hard time figuring out her own path, but the way it was written was so lovely and showed us instead of told us how she felt, and why we should probably be there with her. Shel: I loved Kens. She's so authentically a teenager. {I don't know how Ginger does it--but she writes her teenage characters so well (as a high school teacher, I can vouch for this)}. I loved Kens for her strength--she was so unwavering about how she felt about what was going on with her family. She also used that steel will to take on the challenge of Owen--and thank god for that; I don't think Owen could've been paired up with anyone less than Kens--the perfect blend of sass and insecurity and keen observer that can take on Owen and win.

Court: OWEN Harper is a name that I fell in love with...but not before the little (big, actually) twerp does some pretty teenage boy things that really make a bruise on our fair heroine. Who does that? Owen Harper does. Because he kind of has a honey badger attitude about things, if you know what I'm sayin'...and then, as she stands up to him in a way that no one else ever does...she finds that Owen isn't quite the menace that he portrays...Shel: I freaking love Owen. I love his insolence and his sincerity. I love how he gets under Kens' skin. I love how loyal and wonderfully sweet he is. And?!! I want him, GINGER. I want to go back in a time machine, be his age, and I want him to be mine. Can you use your mad writing skillz and make that happen?!!

Court: I have so much love for this book...you just have no idea. We fell in love with Ginger's young character's struggling to find their way and their path with Waiting on the Sidelines...and I can definitely say that I am so happy to have the privilege to read this woman's words. The prose is sharp, the pace is perfect, and the plot is strikingly heartbreaking, tragic and hopeful all at once. Through good times, and bad, we watch Kensi and Owen forge a bond that we hoped page after page could not be broken. Poor Shel had to endure several shouty caps texts from me...but...five beautiful broken stars for the newest favorite book of Ginger Scott's for me to date.Shel: I concur. This is one of my favorite books Ginger has written--she writes young love and angst so perfectly. The pacing in this novel is perfect, the characters feel like the age they're supposed to be, the scenarios feel real, and when you're not anxious about what's happened next, you're laughing at the funny things that are said and happen-- a perfect blend of tension and comic relief.

Thank you, Ginger. You never fail us.
