REVIEW: ROCK ADDICTION BY NALINI SINGH

Cover:  Rock Addiction (A Rock Kiss Novel)

RELEASE DATE: September 9th, 2014

Blurb
A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…

Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.

A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…

Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…

OUR REVIEW:

I'm so glad I read this book; it surprised me. I guess I was expecting a lot of angst and hardship and all sorts of bad shenanigans..and I'm happy to report that I finished it happy and wanting more. I was expecting that too. And while I had a rocky start getting into it, the book pleased me greatly by the end. I had never experienced Nalini's writing before, but I can't wait to dive into more.

Molly, on the surface, appears to be this naive, shy, quiet librarian and I suppose there is a large part of her that has those traits. But really, she's a young woman reacting to the horrible story of her parents. She's learned how to protect herself and not put herself in any position to ever have to live under the media spotlight and be hurt like she was before. Despite the hurts from her childhood, Molly is actually very strong. She knows what she wants and what she doesn't and thus far she's created a life of comfort....until Fox rocks her world.

I knew we were going to get trouble from Molly when she was adamant that she wanted NOTHING to do with the lifestyle that her sister Thea used to make her living as a publicist. She was kind of a wall flower type at first, or really, she wasn't but she wanted to be VERY badly. Her character had to grow on me!

Zachary Fox is the rock god of rock gods. He's Mr. Sexy Musician Man and can have any girl, any time, no questions asked and while he definitely had a taste of that at the beginning of his career, he's not that guy anymore. He's focused and passionate and a nice guy (with some scar tissue from his past). Once he sets his sights on Molly all of that focus and passion is aimed at her--poor girl did not stand a chance.

I loved that about Fox. He is the epitome of bad boy rocker who makes you want to just fall over at his feet, but he is also way more than that. We find that out as we get to know him, and he quickly became a favorite of mine. Though...how he was with his band mates had me swooning for him even more than the romance. Love a good bromance, people.

What starts out as a freakin' hot as hell one night stand, quickly becomes more for them both. Fox has no intention of letting her walk away and must patiently await her acquiescence. He knows very quickly that she's someone he needs and isn't willing to give her up. Molly, on the other hand, has absolutely no intention of seeing him past the expiration date; she has her reasons. And while her reasons are justifiable, thank god for her friend, Charlie. Charlie talks some sense into her and manages to get her to rethink her decisions. Charlie is her voice of reason. And I see Charlie having a story soon with T-Rex...can't wait to see what she is getting up to with her own alpha male.

Here's what I appreciated about this novel:
  • I love that Fox has to give chase and be patient
  • I love that Molly has no qualms putting him in his place
  • I love that stubborn pride or something equally awful doesn't prohibit them from taking risks and being vulnerable
  • I love the friendships and entanglements and obstacles that must be overcome AND how Fox and Molly do this together
  • I love that while there are some moments of GAH!, mostly this is a love story. You won't want to kill someone while reading it.
  • I love that Molly and Fox support and protect and take care of each other
  • I'm loving all of the secondary characters and excited to see what happens with them
I really enjoyed this one, eventually. Like I said, I wasn't a huge fan of the beginning, because some of the things he said to her were just a bit OTT for me. Meh, just me, I know. But as the story went on and we got to know their friends...watch out!! I also saw that while this story is pretty awesome, it is a huge set up for the rest of the band and that takes some finesse. You can tell by the foreshadowing that the other guys' stories are concurrently going on, and boy do they all have a lot going on. Can't wait to find out what.

Great novel! Very much looking forward to the next one(s). Truly, I was nervous at first, but she pulled it off for me by the end.

Shelley: 4 stars
Courtney: 4 Stars
