REVIEW: TWISTED PERFECTION BY ABBI GLINES

Life outside of her house was a new experience for Della Sloane. The dark secrets of her past weren’t something she ever intended to share with anyone. They would never understand. No one would ever get close enough to find out. There was always a chance she’d go crazy sooner than they expected…

Woods Kerrington had never been one to be attracted to fragile females. They seemed like too much work. He wasn’t in it for the work just the pleasure. A night full of naughty fun had been exactly what was on his mind when he’d laid eyes on the hot little number that didn’t know how to pump gas and needed some help.

What he didn’t know was she was as fragile as they came.
The carefree girl who spoke her mind and didn’t care what the world thought of her was more breakable than he could ever imagine…

Where to Find Twisted Perfection:

Where to Find Abbi Glines

***4 1/2 Stars***

Courtney, this book completely blindsided me. I knew it was coming but I guess I forgot it was being released so soon and then the twitterverse exploded when it was released...and bam. I. HAD. TO. READ.IT.

1. Della. What a unique story. She's basically been locked up in a house with her crazy mama her entire life. She doesn't even know how to pump gas --enter Woods Kerrington. Not only does he help her with pumping gas he helps her experience all sorts of new and spine tingling experiences. While Della is a smidge naive about the world she's not as naive as might you'd suspect, considering her limited life experiences, but it seems she has her BFF Braden to thank for that. Braden has not only mentored Della about the ways of the world, she's also encouraged her to explore the world and have new experiences. As Della begins to navigate this new life we learn more about how sweet she is through her interactions with others and how damaged she is through her nightly nightmares. Poor Della. Her mama was crazy and in her desire to protect Della from the horrors of the world she submerged her in horror at home...hence the nightmares. The hair raising, screaming nightmares that only Woods can seem to quell.

2. Woods. We first met him in Rush and Blaire's story Fallen Too Far  and ..... I always teetered on the edge of not liking him before but I now completely adore him. I quickly got over my misperceptions of his sense of entitlement that seemed to swirl around him and learned that he is one of those rare, rich good guys. He's worked his entire life trying to earn a position in the family business and somehow along the way allowed himself to be manipulated and controlled by both of his parents. It's a wonder that he has a shred of goodness (after seeing how evil his parents are) and that he's got the good sense to fall in love with someone as sweet as Della. With her he's gentle, and tender, and kind. He begins to see the man he could become with Della and starts eliminate the obstacles that would hinder his progress.

3. The Rosemary Beach crew.I love it when characters sneak from previously released novels into to new ones. In this novel we get a sneak peak of Rush and Blaire and all of the Rosemary Beach crew...which of course just increases our appetites for more, more more of all of them. It was nice, though, to see these characters from another perspective; to see how how outside characters view the characters we've grown to know so well in the other novels.

4. Setting. I live in the New Orleans area and am very familiar with the Gulf South...especially the beach. I have been going to the Gulf Coast beaches since childhood and I think I feel particularly connected to these characters and locations because of this. I have sensory memories that float off of the page as I read; I can smell the salt water air, feel the breezes and know the breath taking cold of ocean water on a hot spring day.

5. The ending. So for the last 20-25% of my reading I thought my heart was going to explode. I seriously wanted to murder the characters on my Kindle--specifically the Kerringtons. My pulse was literally racing. The f bombs were flying through my texts as if I only knew how to spell that word, and only that word. Just when I thought I was catching my breath...the ending just knocked it right back out of me. What. The. Ever. Loving. EFF???  A cliffhanger. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

And that, my dears, is how I had to go to yoga last Thursday night. Completely angst-filled, a little peeved, and seriously wanting the next installment of Woods and Della...like yesterday. So, Abbi Glines, if you are listening...hear my plea--puh-lease get to writing and get us an ending to this story. I'm dying here.

***5 Stars***

I counted it up and I had read 10 books by Abbi Glines prior to this one. And I loved every single one, so I had no doubt that this one was going to be epic too. Woods did not disappoint me in the least. Well, okay...HE disappointed me there for a little while in the middle, but for reasons he thought were good...but Abbi did not!

1) Della. Shelley is so right. Her back story was quite an original one, which led her on her journey of life discovery and road trips. I found her so brave as we found out little by little the things that she went through with her mom. I felt sorry for her and her mom, because obviously she wasn't able to get the help she needed to grieve like she should have, and that led her to being completely unhinged. It's easy for us to hate on her, but things could have been so different if she had even one person to help her. Della could also have been so withdrawn into herself that she didn't take a chance on life and again, Shelley pointed out that Braden was the catalyst that helped her learn to live.

2) Woods. That is so funny that you liked him less in FTF or NTF because his relationship with Blair is one of the many reasons I love him! He took care of her and supported her when she needed him and ended up being such a good friend. If Rush had not gotten his crap together I would have been all for Team Woods! Through parts of TP I was cursing him a little bit wishing that he would just man up. Obviously blood is thicker than water, or he would have stood up to his family long ago, but I thought he was weak for going along with all of their plans for the sake of his happiness. Who deserves that? And shame on his parents for making him feel that way, especially when you realize that his grandparents were not like that. Weird how people can turn out unexpedtedly! *shudders* My disdain for his choices didn't last long, and this sexy southern boy has my heart also.

3) The Rosemary crew. I will be that person who beats a dead horse into the ground when I say a great supporting cast is totally my favorite, as are companion novels such as these. I almost prefer it, because we get to see what our favorite people are doing without subjecting them to more angst and heartbreak to get their HEA! If Tripp doesn't get his own story, I will be very, very sad! I was a teensy disappointed in how little Blair was in this one since she and Woods were pretty good friends, but it was still great even without it!

4) The end. @#$%@#$^@#$^#$%!@$!@#%@#^ Really. Well. I honestly don't know why I was surprised, because several of Abbi's books have ended this way - sort of like you don't get anything for free...if something good happens, something bad is definitely going to follow it. I see some major asshole moments coming from Woods in the future, and while I can't blame him, I will feel so bad for Della! C'mon Woods, you have to handle this like the man you wanted to prove to everyone you are!

I am so excited while writing this because I got to meet Abbi this weekend at the RT convention in Kansas City. She is so sweet, and so pretty! Definitely not hard to support someone as nice as her and want to shout how great her books are from the roof tops! It might also be that when it's your turn to get something signed they (being all the authors I spoke to) talk to you and answer any questions you have without rushing. I've been to signings for other things before (ahem..nascar) and the person doesn't even look at you as you go through line after waiting hours to meet them. So my respect for all of my favorite authors went up significantly too! Hope you all enjoy this book or start this series!

  2. Thank you so much for the review! I've wanted to read this book, so it's nice to see what others have thought about it.

I've not read any books by Abbi Glines yet, but I'd definitely like to. I see that Twisted Perfection is the first book in it's series and yet you mention characters from other books being in TP. In which order should I read all of her books so that I can kind of get the back story for the other characters in TP? Are each of her different series' kind of connected?

    Thanks again for the review!

    Best Wishes,
    Lindsey V.

  3. I saw that it said it was book one, and I think it could be read as a stand alone..but we meet Woods first in Fallen Too Far (Rush & Blair) , and Never Too Far (Rush & Blair) is #2, then Twisted Perfection (Woods & Della). So 1 & 2 are about the same people, & TP is more of a companion. If you like those, she has several other series too.

The Vincent Boys & The Vincent Brothers go together, about Beau & Sawyer Vincent.

The Sea Breathe series is Just Breathe, Because of Low, While It Lasts, and Just For Now. They are all companions but she is giving some of them second books. (P.S. I think some of these are on sale right now!)

    Hope this helps!
