REVIEW: ESCAPING REALITY BY LISA RENEE JONES

Infinite possibilities….
Infinite passion…..
Infinite danger….

His touch spirals through me, warm and sweet, wicked and hot. I shouldn’t trust him. I shouldn’t tell him my secrets. But how do I not when he is the reason I breathe? He is what I need.

At the young age of eighteen, tragedy and a dark secret force Lara to flee all she has known and loves to start a new life. Now years later, with a new identity as Amy, she’s finally dared to believe she is forgotten–even if she cannot forget. But just when she lets down her guard, the ghosts of her past are quick to punish her, forcing her back on the run.

On a plane, struggling to face the devastation of losing everything again and starting over, Amy meets Liam Stone, a darkly entrancing recluse billionaire, who is also a brilliant, and famous, prodigy architect. A man who knows what he wants and goes after it. And what he wants is Amy. Refusing to take “no” as an answer, he sweeps her into a passionate affair, pushing her to her erotic limits. He wants to possess her. He makes her want to be possessed. Liam demands everything from her, accepting nothing less. But what if she is too devastated by tragedy to know when he wants more than she should give? And what if there is more to Liam than meets the eyes?

~Where to find Escaping Reality~

This was my first foray in to the mind of Lisa Renee Jones and all I can say is that I want more...NOW. This book was a complete mindfuck in the most delicious possible way. I mean...how many books can you say that you have no fucking idea what the hell the protagonist is running from or to and yet you still are enthralled with every word, every chapter, every...everything!?!

Totally! My thoughts exactly! We know moving through the story about as much as Amy does...which isn't a whole helluva lot. Yet I was hooked from the get go. Storylines like these are so far outside of my realm of real life thinking, and it's an intense high stakes game...that no one signed up to play but can't fold out of. I also loved it because unlike some espionage type plots, things don't just unravel perfectly for her. She has nothing but the clothes on her back and a few instructions.....then poof. Nothing. I wouldn't handle that sort of loneliness well!

Courtney started (and finished) this one and kept sending me these cryptic texts that made me eager and fearful of what I was getting myself into...so what did I do? I quickly got my crap done and jumped in with two feet. This book starts with Amy receiving a heart stopping note to drop everything and get the hell out of NYC...NOW.  Whatthahell?!! Yeah, she had me within paragraphs and I had a very difficult time separating myself from this read (as in I had it on my lap while drying my hair, on my Kindle app on my phone for when I was out and about, and read it while attempting to fold laundry).

There was no stopping us on this one! I had to know something. Did I find out that something. NO! But when someone is watching the MC and leaves a cryptic message for her in the bathroom and she follows those instructions because she doesn't know what the alternative would be if she doesn't....well...I'd be curled up in the fetal position. She gets sent to one of my favorite book settings....Denver! And the wild ride truly begins in the air.

Amy follows her instructions and meets Liam Stone on her way out of town. Their connection is immediate and intense. Amy continually tries to wall herself off from him but she cannot seem to break free. He says all of the right things, at the right times, and her internal radar keeps telling her that he's safe. The comfort and protection he seems to be able to provide tears down all of her prior self-preservation tactics and while she's not completely forthcoming, she's as close to being honest as she has been in a long time. I don't blame her for falling for this guy. He's swoonworthy. His strong personality, sex appeal, smarts, and raw honesty make me root for them to be together at the same time that I want to scream at her to RUN...I mean who can she trust? Can she trust him???!!! Her life is in danger and she just doesn't know enough about anyone or anything...my internal radar was up FOR HER.

We've had a great book discussion over the last few days....is he good and we're being distracted to think he might not be? Is he really bad and he has inserted himself into her life and she is totally screwed? I find that these stories of people coming from totally different walks of life and meeting and paving a way through their secrets and demons intriguing even without all the other stuff, because I met my guy when I was 15. Love him with all my heart, but budding adult relationships are fascinating! The other players in this story are also so very suspicious that I just want to know the end already and fill in the pieces later! Okay, no not really! But I was a hot mess reading this story! And I though it was amazingly written!

In the midst of all of this Amy feels like she's being watched and I was freaking out for her. There were also some things that didn't add up--she took all of these strange occurrences in stride and meanwhile I'm SHOUTING at my Kindle..."no!..don't trust ..and get the hell out of there, now!!!". I was instantly suspicious of everyone and everything and just wanted to know more, more, more.

She finally starts becoming suspicious too, and things stop adding up....but still I don't know enough! I need to know what is going on. I am hopeful (okay, pessimistically optimistic) that the second book will answer some of our million questions quickly!

I cannot wait for the second book to come (I think it's SOON!). This is a definite must read...go check it out!
