REVIEW: REAL UGLY BY C.M. STUNICH

Turner Campbell is an asshole.
I f*cking hate him.
But I can't get enough either.
He sings like an angel and f*cks like a devil.
If I could, I'd run away and never look back because to tell you the truth, I think this man might be the death of me.

***

Naomi Knox is a bitch.
I can't f*cking stand her.
But I can't stop thinking about her either.
She looks like an angel and plays like a devil.
If I could, I'd f*ck her good and forget all about her, but to tell you the truth, I think this woman might be my last saving grace.

Our Review---
I was quite excited to put this on the list to read for many reasons. 1) Rockers 2) Female led rock band and 3) I bought it so long ago and couldn't believe that we hadn't read it yet! So...here we are! We read it...and I really enjoyed it. Chick rockers? Um, yeah. I had to see what this was all about, for sure.

Naomi and Turner are seriously some of the most unlikable characters, ever...but somehow for me it worked so well. They fit their lifestyle. They were so unapologetic and owned it, that I was like...yeah...no posers here. I wanted them to quit fighting each other, and was somewhat sad when the revelation of what was up with Naomi was revealed.

I'm still uncertain at this point how I feel about Naomi and Turner. They're both difficult to like and I'm not sure if I ever did. Naomi has secrets upon secrets and she's completely closed off and angry. She's being manipulated by a bandmate, chased by a crazy person, and has a rage boner for Turner. Turner, is equally screwed. He pumps and dumps..as in girls...all of the time. He's the stereotypical rocker, in that way. The only thing working for him is that he actually is honest, about everything and I suppose that redeems him, somewhat.

Turner is...well, to be honest I was surprised to find out that he is 28. But again, as you find out about his childhood and life, you see that both of these adult-like-children don't have a clue how to be functioning members of society. Maybe, I just loved the anarchy of the whole thing...I dunno! They're pretty crazy!

They are nuts. And immature. And the sex, drugs, rock and roll aspect of it made me almost dizzy with how crazy their lifestyle was. Just their smoking habit alone made me want to gulp in lots of fresh air.

The ending surprised the hell out of me. I knew there is another book because I have seen it and we've featured it on MRBoD, but holy cliffhanger batman. It isn't painful as much as it snuck up on me and bit me...kind of like when Forrest Gump got shot. Just like that...and I was reeling. Just, whoa. I need these people to get their happily ever after damn it! And I have a billion questions! I will need to not wait so long to read the next one!

I, on the other hand, was surprised by the cliffhanger and y'all know..I have a hard time not getting pissed off by cliffhangers. Now I feel like I have to read the next one because..WTF. I mean, really. WTF just happened? Still processing. Not sure.

About the Author---
C.M. Stunich was raised under a cover of fog in the area known simply as Eureka, CA. A mysterious place, this strange, arboreal land nursed Caitlin's (yes, that's her name!) desire to write strange fiction novels about wicked monsters, magical trains, and Nemean Lions (Google it!). She currently enjoys drag queens, having too many cats, and tribal bellydance.

Always a fan of the indie scene and 'sticking it to the man,' Ms. Stunich decided to take the road less traveled and forgo the traditional publishing route. You can be assured though that she received several rejections as to ensure her proper place in the world of writers before taking up a friend's offer to start a publishing company. Sarian Royal was born, and Ms. Stunich's books slowly transformed from mere baking chocolate to full blown tortes with hand sculpted fondant flowers.

C.M. is a writer obsessed with delivering the very best and scours her mind on a regular basis to select the most unusual stories for the outside world.

Ms. Stunich can be reached via e-mail or by post and loves to hear from her readers. Ms. Stunich also wrote this biography and has no idea why she decided to refer to herself in the third person.
