REVIEW: Scandalous by L.J. Shen

Scandalous, the highly anticipated next standalone in the Sinners of Saint
Series by LJ Shen is available NOW!

Scandalous by LJ Shen
Publishing Date: September 29th, 2017
Genre: Contemporary Romance

They call him The Mute for a reason.
Hard, cold and calculated, he rarely speaks.
When he does, it’s with disdain.
When he does, his words aren’t meant for me.
When he does, my stomach flips and my world tilts on its axis.

He is thirty-three.
I am eighteen.

He’s a single dad and my father’s business partner.
I’m just a kid to him and his enemy’s daughter.
He’s emotionally unavailable.

And I am…feeling. Feeling things I shouldn’t feel for him.

Trent Rexroth is going to break my heart. The writing isn’t just on the wall, it’s inked on

my soul.
And yet, I can’t stay away.

A scandal is the last thing my family needs. But a scandal is what we’re going to give

them.

And oh, what a beautiful chaos it will be.

Shel: Is it wrong that I gave myself a good 90 seconds to contemplate how to make LJ Shen into a book writing robot that could produce novels at a weekly pace? Because I did that. I thought about how much I enjoy her novels and how I wish I had more of them to read, more often. Seriously. She writes novels that glue me to my kindle until I finish them or I run out of battery power, whichever comes first.  She's created, in her hotholes, characters I've loved to hate, hated to love, and everything in between and Scandalous absolutely takes the cake when it comes to all those things: gluing me to my kindle and having me feel a vast array of feelings about her characters.

Court: UGH! RIGHT! Amen to that. We are obsessed with this series, and definitely were so excited to read this installment. I refuse at this juncture to acknowledge that this is probably the end for these boys, because I'm selfish like that...but it really, really, realllllly was a surprise to what I thought might happen in this one. There is so much more going on than just the normal amount of angst...there is some real life bad shit happening, and we were definitely glued to the book every single word.

Shel: I honestly wasn't sure what was going to come of Trent and Edie but they sure did snag my attention from page one. Edie had so much shit going on in her life...and, really, so did he. Neither of them made it easy on the other (or on us, sometimes) and their antagonistic relationship was so deliciously fucked up and fun to read. The way they were so drawn to each other and scornful of each other and how they tried to one up each other was so entertaining--I couldn't wait to see what they'd say or do next. There's just something about reading characters who try so hard to fight their attraction and their hearts, only to capitulate in the end, that can just compel me to keep turning pages in glee.

Court: They couldn't fight the pull of one another even though almost literally every single thing was trying to come between them. Her father, their age, did I mention her father? His unwillingness to bend, her fierce protectiveness to the point of it really being to her detriment. I really wish that she had more than just Bane in her corner because I really fell in love with her essence early...and she doesn't really show it for a long, long time. Why? Well...why on earth would she?!? She's manipulated so much, and she has to keep her guard up all of the time...in her house or out of it...and I am impressed with how many emotions I felt for this girl!

Shel: But this novel wasn't about barbed sarcasm, hate fucks, and magnetic attraction. Shen also gave us characters who had some interesting conflict outside of the romantic one. Both Edie and Trent had issues with family that made me so hurt and angry and eager to get to the bottom of what was going on and to see how things would be resolved...how would things crash and burn and how would they pick up the pieces after? Shen kept the action and reveals going all the way to the end and when I got to the last page, I was both satisfied with how it ended and still hungry for more of these guys. Which has me hoping..maybe Bane could be an honorary hothole? He seems like he has a story to tell and LJ Shen would do him justice, I know. In other words, LJ Shen...please give us more; we're not ready for the end of these characters.

Court: Honorory Hothole...or the next generation of them? To be determined...but I am hoping! I really love how L.J. Shen really kept true to the series of intense loyalty to these men, their unwavering desire to rule their world based on their upbringing but really...even for just one person who meant something to them they let us glimpse their heart. And talk about show stealers....Luna? I've loved that name number one for-ev-er...and then this little girl has this crazy controlling guy wrapped around her finger and it really takes Edie's understanding to help her come out of her shell a little bit. I could keep gushing, but by this point you really should decide that you DO indeed want to read this series. We loved it, and hope you do too!
