Last Kiss by Laurelin Paige Series: First and Last #2 Publisher: St. Martin’s Press Genre: Romantic Suspense/ Contemporary RomanceLast Kiss had my blood pumping the entire time I read it; it was the angsty roller coaster ride that I'd been looking for and I could not put it down until it was over. Laurelin Paige had me sweating all the way until the end; as a matter of fact I remember getting close to the end and sneaking over to goodreads just to make sure there wasn't a book three--that's how close she got to the end with me not knowing how it would end!!! My heart was freaking racing. GAH.
If you recall the ending of First Touch it was shocking. After a quick prologue in Last Kiss, that consisted of a flashback about Amber and Emily, we jumped right back into the night where Amber appeared at Reeve's ranch. From this point on we get some intel on what happened to her after she left Reeve and we also get much more conflict as her appearance makes things significantly more complicated for Reeve and Emily-- as does the looming threat from Reeve's uncle. As the tension rises between all of these characters we get more of the back story between Amber and Emily, including much of the machinations and manipulations that made their relationship what it was, and as more is revealed, and the threats become more pressing, the more anxious I got. All I wanted was to see Amber safe and Emily and Reeve to find a way to be together, is that too much to ask for?!! Yes. Yes it was. Laurelin Paige made me work for the ending I was seeking and it didn't happen exactly the way I thought it would at all but that's what made this so much fun.
This steamy, angsty, twists and turns conclusion to the story of Emily and Reeve was precisely the book I wanted to read this weekend--it kept me on my toes and gave me an ending that kept me reading until the very last word. And while I know that their particular story is over, I can honestly say that I'd love to read more of them--they are fire on the page together and it just feels like there could be more story there (or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part because I enjoyed their spark). Way to leave me wanting more, Laurelin Paige; I can't wait to read what you do next.
