REVIEW: The Auction by Tiffany Reisz

OUR REVIEW:

Reading the off-shoots of The Original Sinners Series is always a good time; you get to see some of your favorite characters from the series while seeing them engage with someone new, or someone you haven't seen in a while. In The Auction, a novella, we get to read about Daniel and Anya and how they fall for each other in the weeks leading up to their being auctioned off at Kingsley's annual charity auction. Their first meeting is awesome--lots of snark and wit and you just KNOW that's going to make for a fun time. There's a lot of great banter between Daniel and all of the characters, lots of steamy kink, and for such a short read, a lot of emotional moments. It never surprises me that I enjoy Tiffany Reisz's novels--they're always so well done--and I rather enjoy that picking up any of the books in this series feels like coming home; the characters feel familiar and interesting and engaging.

REVIEW: The Pearl by Tiffany Reisz

OUR REVIEW:

The Godwicks Series is such a fun escape and The Pearl is a perfect addition to this erotic series. This particular novel focuses on the pairing of Regan and Arthur ....and a certain figurehead and his meddling ways.

This novel wastes no time getting into the thick of the story of Regan and Arthur and their forced pairing. I really enjoyed the roles each of them took on in the relationship and as the pages turned, their back stories and chemistry had me inhaling this novel in a matter of hours. In addition to their eroticism and love story, I enjoyed the continuation of using art as a unifying thread between all three novels. I also enjoyed Arthur's commentary on his parents and siblings and am hoping that there might be one more Godwick that has a magical story to tell.

In the mood for a read that is erotic, romantic, and magical? The Pearl will hit all those for you and then some.

The Priest by Tiffany Reisz

OUR REVIEW:

Listen, y'all.

I.

Was.

NOT.

Prepared.

I thought I was. I wasn't.

Tiffany Reisz got with me with the title and I went into The Priest thinking I knew what was going on and I really didn't.

First of all the opening scene had my full attention. It absolutely grabbed me and insisted that this not be a slow read for me. I picked this book up every chance I had--using it as a reward to motivate me to get work done so that I could continue to read.

The story of Cyrus and his investigation to the suicide of a priest was such a nice pairing to the story of Soren and Nora. The contrasts and parallels that were made as the mystery deepened and then was solved just enhanced every aspect of my reading. Cyrus had some funny and poignant observations and was a good foil for Nora and Soren. And, Nora was a good influence (!) on Cyrus. I really enjoyed the pairing of the storyline and characters.

And I return to where I started--I wasn't prepared for the emotional feelings I had, especially near the end. I'm not sure if it only what was happening between these characters or that I have no idea if or when we'll see a continuation of the story of our Original Sinners. All I know is that I've spent the last few weeks in their world (reading The King, The Queen, and now The Priest) and I don't want them to be over yet. *sad face*

Truly a fantastic read from start to finish and one, I hope, that is opening the door for new characters and books in this series.

PS-As a New Orleanian, I'm HERE for these characters being in New Orleans and Tiffany Reisz doing New Orleans right!

SYNOPSIS:

Tiffany Reisz’s USA Today bestselling Original Sinners series returns with the long-awaited sequel to "The Queen."

When a New Orleans parish priest is found dead of an apparent suicide, the police see no reason to investigate. Private detective Cyrus Tremont knows a cover-up when he sees it, however. A former cop, he’s seen it all...or so he thought.

Clues point him in the direction of Nora Sutherlin, an erotic romance writer who moonlights as a dominatrix. Together, they form an unlikely bond built on their shared need for justice.

As Cyrus is drawn deeper into Nora’s underground world of pleasure and pain, what lines will he cross to discover the truth about the priest? And what will he and Nora do with the truth once they find it?

"The Priest" is the beginning of a new era for Reisz’s Original Sinners series, and the perfect jumping-on point for new readers.

The Virgin by Tiffany Reisz

I love that this series is a series of frame stories within a frame of the entire series. There's something comforting about picking up a read and knowing a little of what to expect and the thing I've appreciated about this series is that for a while now I've known where the journey ends. I've learned that it's not the SHOCKING! ending that I crave in this series; it's the journey to get to where I know I'm going that holds my attention.

Don't get me wrong, Nora and King and Soren all have surprises up their sleeves but that's just an added bonus to the storytelling that's happening in this series. In The Virgin, we learn what Nora was up to in the year she lived in her mother's convent and how she became a writer and we learn how Kingsley meets and falls madly in love with Juliette. So much to love about these stories told in a parallel time and universe--all being told to us through the lens of sharing a bedtime story on the cusp of very special wedding.

I'm racing through these novels. I'm helpless against these characters and their long and storied pasts and I know I'm going to be incredibly sad to get to the last book but I'm planning on enjoying the journey to get there.

SYNOPSIS:

For years, Kingsley Edge warned Eleanor the day would come when she, the mistress of a well-respected Catholic priest, would have to run. She always imagined if that day came, she’d be running with Søren. Instead, she’s running from him.

Fearing Søren and Kingsley will use their power and influence to bring her back, Eleanor takes refuge at the one place the men in her life cannot follow. Behind the cloistered gates of the convent where her mother has taken orders, Eleanor hides from the man she loves and hates in equal measure.

With Eleanor gone, the lights have gone out in Kingsley’s kingdom. When he learns the reason she left, he, too, turns his back on Søren and runs. On a beach in Haiti, Kingsley meets Juliette, the one woman who could save him from his sorrows. But only if he can save her first.

Eleanor can hide from Søren but she can’t hide from her true nature. A virginal novice at the abbey sends Eleanor down a path of sexual awakening, but to follow this path means leaving her lover behind, a sacrifice Eleanor refuses to make.

The lure of the forbidden, the temptation to sin and the price of passion have never been higher, and Eleanor and Kingsley will have to pay it if they ever want to go home again.

REVIEW: The King by Tiffany Reisz

REVIEW:

It's been a little while since I've been in the world of the Original Sinners but as always, when I do find myself in it, I wonder how I waited so long to come back. The characters feel like family and you can tell that Tiffany Reisz loves and cares for them by the way she crafts their narratives.

It's in The King that we get deeper into the story of Kingsley Edge. We knew about his boyhood from previous novels in this series and now we get to see some of those missing years between his service in the French military and his life as an established figure..ahem, King...in the NYC underworld of all things kink. Truth be told, I wasn't sure how I felt about King prior to this novel. In previous novels I liked him, felt for him, or was ambivalent towards him but it was in this novel that I truly fell for him. I felt like I understood him so much better; that I understood the dynamic between him and Soren and Nora in way that I don't know I always really got. I loved the story of his club and how he attained it as well as reading his meeting with Soren for the first time in eleven years.

I know for some, even me, at times, knowing so much about these characters ahead of times makes you wonder what's left to know, what could possibly happen, what mysteries are left to uncover? And perhaps it's that line of questioning that turns some people off from grabbing the next book in the series? But for me, this series isn't so much about solving a mystery at the end, it's more about seeing the depth of their relationships, their entanglements, and seeing all the 'behind the scenes' stuff that you don't know when you only know the end point but not the journey it took to get there. These novels, now, are more about the journey for me--not so much the end.

Every time I pick up a book of Tiffany Reisz I wonder why I didn't pick it up sooner and I remember just how much I love the worlds she creates.
