OUR REVIEW:

Shel: This novel is the forbidden fantasy or the thing nighttime soap operas are made of and I feel like you just have to know that and accept that it's completely fantastical--you absolutely cannot get moralistic or think of all the reasons why something like a student and teacher should never hook up. So, once you get down for the fantasy, prepare for the fun. Defy is a very fun, very naughty short. For those who've read Vicious, it gives the back story to Jaime and Mel and how, exactly, a teacher ends up marrying Jaime and giving him his HEA. You also get some additional insights into the other characters in their friend group, which adds another interesting layer to the series.

Court: To get some insight, Shelley IS a teacher...so the fact that she went down this rabbit hole at all with a student teacher romance says a lot to the writing of L.J. Shen, and how sucked into Vicious we were in the first book. I flat out DEVOURED this novella...and I am glad that it was a long as it was, and yes, do wish it were longer. We got a little bit of history of Jaime in Vicious, but I am so glad we got to see the past of where he'd been and how he got to be the man he was in the present tense. The shock and awe of these boys (The Four HotHoles..haha, still cracks me up!) is OTT and I loved every single second of it. They're defiant (heh, defy!) and the title really worked well for this book. They're hot, and they know it, and I like them because they are seriously ridiculous in their loyalty to one another. I wish I had friends like them if only for the amount which they do not question each other when it comes to standing up for what one of them wants (not to say they don't fight amongst themselves) but when it comes to external forces working against them they were 100% at each others backs and I love that. I cannot wait for more from this author, and I will be waiting and rereading what we have so far with bated breathe because right this second I don't know if Trent or Dean's book is coming next!!!!!!

Defy is a perfectly fun read for this cold and gloomy Saturday.

My name is Melody Greene, and I have a confession to make.

I slept with my student, a senior in high school.

Multiple times.

I had multiple orgasms.
In multiple positions.
I slept with my student and I enjoyed it.
I slept with my student and I’d do it all over again if I could turn back time.
My name is Melody Greene, and I got kicked out of my position as a teacher and did my walk of shame a la Cersei Lannister from the principal’s office, minutes after said principal threatened to call the cops on me.
My name is Melody Greene, and I did something bad because it made me feel good.
Here is why it was totally worth it.
Defy is a smutty, insta-love, insta-lust short novella. Defy is a prequel to Vicious (Sinners of Saint #1). It is recommended, but unnecessary, to read Defy before reading Vicious.

L.J. Shen resides in sunny California with her husband, son, chubby cat and wild, wild dreams.
Her passion is to write badass stories, sushi, UFC and her awesome family and friends (not in this order, though. Obviously, sushi comes before writing. Oh, and also the family part.)

She spend the first half of her twenties traveling the world and is now paying all the fun with extra shifts in front of her MacBook. Feel free to contact her on her Facebook page. She loves to hear from her readers.
