Monday, April 23 - Friday, April, 27
It’s time! The LIFT 4 Autism auction is open for bidding until Friday, April 27, 5pm EST. A few bidding tips 1. You must register to bid. This connects any bids you make to an email address and alerts you if someone submits a higher bid, or ultimately if you have the highest bid when the auction closes and you win. Register, browse and bid here: http://bit.ly/LIFT2018Bid 2. US Only v. International. Before you bid on an item, please note if it is marked Domestic (US Only) or International. If you are outside the US, bid on and win an item marked US Only/domestic, the donor is not obligated to ship Internationally, and the bid will instead be awarded to the next highest eligible bid. 3. There are about 350 items up for bid. For quick reference, you can view this rough list of items, or you can browse, scrolling from page to page, or you can use the search window to find a particular item. 5. When bidding closes, the person with the highest bid at that time is the winner and will be automatically alerted at the email address they used to register. 5. Pay for your bid when you receive the notification that you were the winning bidder. Failure to pay for the bid forfeits the item to the next highest bidder.

REVIEW: Cold by Max Monroe

BUY IT on AMAZON

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: I always wonder if the second book of a trilogy is hard to write because it's right in the middle of everything? No worries here, though. Max Monroe keep these characters on their toes. Ivy and Levi are working through some stuff in this book so there's a lot of wanting to either hug them or hurt them going on, especially with Ivy--she had me going crazy!! Thankfully her sister spoke all the wisdom that I would've wanted to speak and Levi had some tricks up his sleeve too. Court: A trilogy is one of those things that gives my heart a bit of angst, but there is so much meat in this story that I was able to deal. Ivy, her sister, Levi, the past and the present keep this middle story just as exciting as the first one.!

Shel: And then all too soon, after the angst and the swoon, we got to the ending and BOOM! that ending. I have thoughts and guesses that I'll have to wait to see if any of those things are true.
But seriously Max Monroe. Seriously?!?! Hmmmm. We're ready for Fox so bring.it.on! Court: And then boom is right...the set up leading to the finale! Shel said it though...we’re ready for the next one and as usual loved Max Monroe’s writing and characters that keep us coming back for more!

REVIEW: The Real by Kate Stewart

We're celebrating the release of THE REAL by Kate Stewart!

Contemporary Romance
Stand Alone
Goodreads: http://bit.ly/2DPWCjm

I don't think I can really talk about plot and a) not spoil things and b) give it the richness that it deserves so instead I'm going to just talk (about my reading experience).

The novel feels like it starts immediately--not a lot of build up or easing you in--I felt like I was in and invested within paragraphs. I found myself invested in Abbie --liking her and laughing and interested in who she was. And then I found myself equally charmed by Cameron. The way he was described in scene after scene made me want to jump in the pages and be woo-ed by him. Their romance was sweet and all kinds of sexy but I found myself holding my breath because it felt too easy, too simple.

And of course it was. Because when when I got to that moment where it all falls apart it really fell apart. I had to wuss out and put the novel down. I had no idea how they'd come back from what happened. It hurt. It was complicated. And then it healed. And I could breathe again.

Kudos to Kate Stewart for not only writing a novel that had me feeling all the things but for touching on something I don't think I've really seen examined/explored  the way she did in The Real.

Blurb:
They say it happens when you least expect it.

It did for me.

It started the moment I saw the simple message pop up on my computer screen:

Cameron’s Mac: Hi.

And when I met the eyes of the gorgeous man messaging me from across the coffee shop, I never thought my reply would lead to the most intense, sexual, and passionate relationship of my life.

We both agreed to check our bags at the door and put our future hopes and aspirations on the table.

It worked.

I fell in love with his no holds barred attitude, sexy smirk, and undeniably good heart . . . and for a while we forgot about our baggage. We happily tripped over it to get to the other, neither of us willing to show the contents of our pasts in the off chance it could ruin us.

We built our love on a foundation of gray.

It was life in black and white that threatened to tear us apart.

EXCERPT:
Cameron’s Mac: Hi.
I looked above my laptop and took a deep breath before I accepted his invitation.

Abbie’s Mac: Hi.
Abbie, he’s going to wear your skin! I tried to ignore my inner voice.

Cameron’s Mac: I saw you with the homeless guy.
Abbie’s Mac: Ok?
He took a sip out of his Real Men Love Pomeranians mug and shrugged before he typed.

Cameron’s Mac: So, that was nice of you. Most people in the city just walk on by.
Abbie’s Mac: Oh. Most people do walk past Bennie. But he’s different and I’m not most people.
He lifted a brow and bit his lip.

Cameron’s Mac: I see that.

Cameron’s Mac: Want to have your next cup with me?

Say yes, say yes! It’s only coffee!
Abbie’s Mac: No, thank you.
You idiot.
His brows drew tight with his frown.

Cameron’s Mac: Sure? How about some breakfast?
My pulse raced with the memory of my last reaction to that type of attention and the consequences, and I answered without another thought.

Abbie’s Mac: No, thanks.
His chuckle was deep and covered me, even across the space between us. He bit his full bottom lip as he typed, his smirk still intact.

Fuck. Me. Damn it, Abbie!
Cameron’s Mac: Well, I guess today is not my day.

Abbie’s Mac: That’s all you’ve got?

I had no clue why I sent that message . . . why I was bothered that he didn’t try harder. Just that fucking smirk. It was sexy as hell.

He read my message and shrugged as he typed.

Cameron’s Mac: You seem to enjoy coffee. I don’t have an agenda. You’re beautiful, I noticed. I wanted to drink coffee with you. You said no. I’m going to scrape up the rest of my pride now and head out.
He closed his laptop and stood while I deflated. Damn it. He was being nice. Since when are guys just . . . nice?

Am I a man hater? Have I become that woman?
I spoke up as he slipped his computer into a worn leather bag.

“I’m sorry,” I offered in quick apology. “I was expecting some horrible line or screwed up proposition. The web, messaging, anything that has to do with technology has been hazardous for me. I’ve seen enough unsolicited dick pics for a lifetime. I was just being cautious.” And that was the truth. But I’d said it aloud in verbal vomit. Did I really say “dick pics” out loud?

He chuckled again as he looked down at me from where he stood, then grinned.

“Today isn’t the right day.” The husky baritone of his voice matched the silky hue of his eyes, which seemed to darken as he looked me over.

“No?” I asked in a whisper as I sized up his six-foot-plus frame and imagined the possibilities.

“No,” he said. “Maybe we can not have coffee again sometime?”

He’d tapped out with a simple ‘no’ from me. He couldn’t have been that interested in the first place.

I couldn’t deny the disappointment welling up in my ovaries.

Okay.” I lifted the last syllable when he didn’t press further.

Cameron pulled out his wallet and set some money on his table then walked over to mine and did the same.

“At least let me buy your next cup.”

After setting the bills down, he stood over me briefly and I caught his scent—purely masculine. I inhaled as much as I could without being obvious. He didn’t smell like a psycho.

Cameron picked up his man–bag while I pictured running my fingers through his messy, inches thick, dark-brown hair.

Don’t let him leave. Tell him you aren’t that big of a bitch. But that would seem desperate. You aren’t desperate. But you are horny. Omg, are you horny??
As if reading my thoughts, I caught another flash of his teeth and had to bite my cheek to keep my reaction in check.

“I’ll see you.”

“Yeah, see you. And thanks,” I said to his retreating back, an octave louder than necessary. “For the coffee,” I added. Outside the window, Cameron bent and exchanged words with Bennie before sticking some cash in his hand.

Well, Abbie. Guess you’ll just have to wait until the next time you roll out of bed and a beautiful man hits on you. Should happen again, you IDIOT!
Once again, my hesitance had cost me. And I couldn’t help but feel like this time it cost me big.

Sagging into my seat, I continued to stare in his direction, watching those broad shoulders walk out of my life.

I reached over and pushed ‘stop’ on Janey’s tape recorder and turned to her. “Saturday then?” She coughed in surprise. “What happens Saturday?” “We conclude the interview. You need to see a football match firsthand or your article is going to sound like a bunch of amateurish gibberish. You want to be taken seriously?” She pressed her lips together for a moment. “Yes.” “So do I. Saturday at noon at Stade Jean-Marc. We’ll finish the interview after.” “Antoine wants the article in two days,” she said. “Tell Antoine I said to wait.” She took another long pull from the lemonade, her pride not letting her say yes to me so quickly. “Saturday then,” she said. “For the article.” “Right,” I said, holding her gaze. “For the article.” She finished off the lemonade and set the glass down. “Thank you very much, Sophie. It was just what I needed.” She gathered her belongings and turned to me. “See you.” “You have a drop of lemonade on your chin,” I said. “Where?” Her hand flew to her mouth. “No, I don’t…” I held out the cocktail napkin with my sketch of her, my brow raised. Janey dropped her hand from her dry chin, fuming. I expected her to flounce away. But she snatched the napkin out of my hand, dropped it into her bag, and coolly walked away. I wasn’t in love with her, but in that moment, I knew someday I would be.

REVIEW: Chaser by Kylie Scott

    Chaser (1)

OUR REVIEW:

You know, I wasn't sure if I'd like Eric after the previous books in this series because he always seemed dickish. But after reading Chaser, I'll give him some credit. He's definitely got the sweetest heart of the bunch, and he's not nefarious or an ass like I thought he might be. If anything, he was just a bit aimless and shallow. He needed something other than himself to focus on which came in the form of Jean and then Jean + Ada.

Over the course of their friendship. Friends with benefits. Denials of feelings. Acknowledging of feelings, Eric went from a guy who was so funny and awkward around women to this really funny, sweet, less awkward version of himself. And while we never get Jean's take on his transformation, I definitely got the impression that she thought he was so much more than Nell ever wanted to give him credit for. I could sense her amusement, adoration, and appreciation on every page.

Another fun Kylie Scott novel--a really great mix of lighthearted fun and sweet romance that blends friends to lovers and single parent tropes into a great read. Here's to hoping Andre rounds out this series?!?!

Given his well-earned bad boy reputation, Eric is having a tough time scoring.. When single Jean moves to town, she seems heaven sent by the sex gods. Only problem is, she not only wants nothing to do with him, but it turns out that she’s pregnant. Starting over in a small town, Jean is determined to turn her wild lifestyle around and be the kind of mother she always wished she’d had. Since local bar owner and all round hottie, Eric Collins, is now determined to steer clear of her pregnant self, it should be easy. When she goes into labour during a snow storm and her car slides on some ice, it’s Eric who comes to the rescue. There seems to be a bond between them now, but is it enough? And can Eric give up his manwhore ways to be the man Jean needs?

I’d been tricked. Betrayed. After Andre and Jean ate their lunch, we headed outside to deal with her stuff. The cold wind suited my mood to perfection. Talk about disappointed. “Don’t lift that, it looks heavy,” I snapped. Jean blinked. “It’s a pillow.” “The world’s largest pillow ever. You can’t be too careful.” My gaze roamed over her swollen middle. “You’re . . .” “Pregnant?” she asked with a voice dripping poison and sugar. “Are you having trouble with the concept?” “Absolutely not. I was just going to say huge, that’s all.” She blew out an exasperated breath. “Thanks, Eric. That makes me feel so much better.” “I just . . .” “Don’t bother.” The woman turned back to her sensible, medium-sized SUV and got busy riffling through the contents. I was surprised she’d been able to squeeze into the driver’s seat. Boxes and stuff took up almost every inch inside the vehicle. Each and every box seemed to have been neatly labeled with the contents. The woman took her organization seriously. She looked over her shoulder. “You know, I can’t help noticing that Eric-the-smooth-moving-flirt has been suddenly replaced by Eric-the-awkward-jerk.” “Well, you said you were single.” I folded my arms defensively across my chest. “I am.” And then there was an awkward silence. “Yeah, but . . . I mean, in your condition . . .” I fumbled to a halt. She turned, face all scrunched up. Like I was the one with the problem. “Just hop out of the way so I can grab some boxes,” I said, voice gruff. Still nothing from her. “It’s a second-story walk-up and you have a lot of stuff to get up there. You should be taking it easy.” Hands on hips, I tapped my black leather boot against the sidewalk, waiting her out. “Jean, I’m not trying to insult you. It’s the truth.” She swore quietly, going back to fussing with the contents in the vehicle. I don’t think any woman has ever given me the silent treatment quite this quickly. Usually I’m good for at least a couple of hours after seeing them naked. Man, I still couldn’t believe this was happening. God hated me or something. Pregnant women and me were enema. Anathema. Whatever. Now that I’d seen her out in the autumn light, however, she looked younger than I’d first guessed. Despite her tired eyes, her skin was smooth, soft looking. She was likely closer to her early twenties than mid. “How old are you?” I asked. “Why do you care?” I shrugged one shoulder. “Just curious.” “How old are you?” “Nearly thirty.” She sniffed. “I’m twenty-two.” Young, like I’d thought. She was probably too immature for me, anyway. “Come on, Jean. Let me get some of the boxes.” Boyd ambled out of the Dive Bar, turning his head this way and that, looking up and down the street. I raised my hand and he started over in our direction. The big cook would make short work out of moving all this stuff. Behind us, Andre and Nell came out of the tenants’ entrance to the Bird Building. The place was a big brick building about a hundred years old. Just past the door was an entryway with stairs leading up to the second floor, followed by two empty shops, their windows covered in flyers about local events. Concerts and parades and shit. They’d been vacant for a while, unfortunately. Andre’s Guitar Den came next, then Pat’s tattoo parlor Inkaho, and the Dive Bar on the corner. “Everything’s good to go. Alex and I gave it a cleaning last week just to be sure,” said Nell, smacking a kiss on Jean’s cheek. “You’ll meet Alex later. She’s probably busy working or something now. She’s sort of a shut-in.” “You two didn’t have to do that,” said Jean. “Thank you.” “Anytime.” Andre leaned against the SUV. “Your furniture got delivered yesterday too, so it’s all good to go.” “Excellent,” said Jean. “I can’t wait to sleep in a decent bed again. Road trips when you’re seven months’ pregnant kind of suck.” “I bet.” “Who’s minding the kitchen?” I asked. “Lydia will text Boyd if they need something,” said Nell. “We’re only going to be a few feet away from the place.” I frowned. “I own the kitchen, Eric. Not you,” she said. “You’re in charge of the bar, that’s all.” One of Jean’s eyebrows inched up slightly. So I might have implied that I was the sole owner. Shit happened. I crossed my arms. “Fine. No need to bite my head off.” “My best online friend just moved to town. We’ve been texting and skyping for months. She’s been an absolute rock for me through all the nerves of being pregnant again,” said Nell. “Stop messing with my happy.” And then there was an awkward silence. Great. If only there was some way to get out of helping without looking like a raging asshole. The possibility of anything happening between me and Jean had been buried six feet deep, never to be spoken of again.
