REVIEW: Into The Light by Aleatha Romig

OUR REVIEW:

THIS BOOK. OMG. This book, y'all, it made me so angry but before I go into that I need to say that I was angry with the characters and their actions--not with the writer. Aleatha Romig did her job--she had me completely caught up in the story of Sara and Stella that I found myself emotionally invested in their lives. It was because of the way she developed these characters and this plot that I went through a bevy of emotions and am very much looking forward to the ending book of this duet.

Reading the synopsis (below), you can see that the lives of these women, Sara and Stella and Mindy, are somehow all connected--but what is unclear is exactly how. We know Stella is looking for Mindy. We know Sara has been taken by a cult. What we don't know is---where is Mindy? Who is Mindy? Is she alive? Is she dead? Is she someone we've met? I can't answer that for various reasons but what I can do is tell you that there are developments in the last pages of this novel that begin to shed light on some of these questions. What I can't tell you, yet, is how all the pieces of the puzzle work together--I'm still wondering that myself.

Another thing I can tell you is that Jacob and his Brothers (insert sneering voice here) pissed me off again and again and again. The things they did and said were so awful and terrifying that I wanted to constantly reach inside the pages of this book and wreak havoc on each and every one of the people who were perpetuating the lies and abuse and terror they inflicted on people. There were so many instances when I thought of The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and remembered feeling the same anger, helplessness, and hopelessness. I kept hoping that Stella was going to break the case and break Sara and others out of the hell that they were being brainwashed into liking but instead of having that hope fulfilled, I had my suspicions growing, surprises thrown at me, and an ending that has me reaching for the next book.

This novel is absorbing and horrific--which is a weird way to describe it, but it's the only way I can describe it? Anyway--grab it and I bet you'll be just as eager as I am to read Away From the Dark.

Sara Adams awakes blind, unable to remember the most basic details of her life, but her darkness seems a blessing when she discovers the terrors of The Light.
