POETRY POST: "To My Favorite 17 Year Old High School Girl" by Billy Collins

The last day before we shut down for spring break 2015, I shared with my seniors a few interviews and readings of Billy Collins. Why? Well, I think too often we forget that poetry doesn't have to be emo and depressing and angry and sad. There are some really fantastic poets out there who are fun and funny and can make fun of themselves (just see Billy Collins on the Colbert Report if you need evidence). I happen to love Billy Collins because he's always trying to make poetry more available and mainstream..and as an unpublished poet, I appreciate anyone's effort to make poetry more visible.

The video below shows Billy Collins reading a poem from his collection Aimless Love and my students cracked up laughing. I hope you do too.
