REVIEW: Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker

BUY IT: Amazon

OUR REVIEW:

Shel: Say You Still Love Me is gonna take you back to your summer camp days, y'all. And for those of us who never went to summer camp days, it'll have you thinking that maybe that was a missed opportunity, especially once you get to know Piper and Kyle. Their slow burn-second chance at love romance was engaging with almost every other chapter flashing back to their first meeting and subsequent weeks at camp, falling in love and getting to know each other and chapters devoted to their here and now. Lest you think it's all a nostalgia filled sepia toned throw back, let me inform you that K.A. Tucker also gives her characters conflict and trouble in their adult lives too. It's most definitely a novel of our time--touching on class and privilege and sexism--while giving us a chance to understand and know the younger versions of Piper and Kyle and how that impacted the older version of who and what they are now.

Shel: Say You Love Me will be a hit for romance readers in the waning summer months of 2019. It's throwback to summer camp mixed with an interesting look at the characters in years later will make it hard to put down.

SYNOPSIS:

The bestselling author of The Simple Wild and Keep Her Safe and “master of steamy romance” (Kirkus Reviews) delivers a sizzling novel about an ambitious and high-powered executive who reconnects with her first love: the boy who broke her heart.

Life is a mixed bag for Piper Calloway.

On the one hand, she’s a twenty-nine-year-old VP at her dad’s multibillion-dollar real estate development firm, and living the high single life with her two best friends in a swanky downtown penthouse. On the other hand, she’s considered a pair of sexy legs in a male-dominated world and constantly has to prove her worth. Plus she’s stuck seeing her narcissistic ex-fiancĂ©—a fellow VP—on the other side of her glass office wall every day.

Things get exponentially more complicated for Piper when she runs into Kyle Miller—the handsome new security guard at Calloway Group, and coincidentally the first love of her life.

The guy she hasn’t seen or heard from since they were summer camp counselors together. The guy from the wrong side of the tracks. The guy who apparently doesn’t even remember her name.

Piper may be a high-powered businesswoman now, but she soon realizes that her schoolgirl crush is still alive and strong, and crippling her concentration. What’s more, despite Kyle’s distant attitude, she’s convinced their reunion isn’t at all coincidental, and that his feelings for her still run deep. And she’s determined to make him admit to them, no matter the consequences.

REVIEW: The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker

OUR REVIEW:

Truthfully, I had some mixed feelings going into The Simple Wild. On the one hand, I enjoy K.A. Tucker's novels and characters. On the other hand, I wasn't sure if I was up for the wilds of Alaska. I'm less a camping and more of a glamping type girl and the idea of inhabiting a space that was going to be as spare and harsh as Alaska seemed like work. My curiosity about who I'd meet in this novel won out, though, and after a bumpy start, I was flying through the pages.

I'm not sure I necessarily liked Calla, her mom, her dad, or Jonah, at first. All of them seemed a bit stubborn about some pretty important things--things that would impact their lives or the lives of their loved ones, or the way they perceived things--and I found myself shaking my head at them all. I also had a little of a hard time getting into the setting of Alaska--it seemed like such a harsh setting to live in, especially for someone as spoiled as Calla (or me, for that matter) and I just couldn't (and can't) fathom making a choice to live in the wilds of Alaska. That being said, once I got passed those things and got to know the characters, I was invested. I laughed at the games and snark between Jonah and Calla and I came to really enjoy the interactions Calla had with her dad and her new Alaskan friends. And, I was so completely caught up in their stories that the ending snuck up on me faster than I was prepared for--making me sad to see that there wasn't another page of chapter to flip to after the last page.

So, all in all, while it took me a little longer to fully sink into this novel, I found that once I got passed my own preferences, I enjoyed what these characters had to offer.

SYNOPSIS:
City girl Calla Fletcher attempts to reconnect with her estranged father, and unwittingly finds herself torn between her desire to return to the bustle of Toronto and a budding relationship with a rugged Alaskan pilot in this masterful new romance from acclaimed author K.A. Tucker.

Calla Fletcher was two when her mother took her and fled the Alaskan wild, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle, leaving behind Calla’s father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at twenty-six, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when her father reaches out to inform her that his days are numbered, Calla knows that it’s time to make the long trip back to the remote frontier town where she was born.

She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasional—dear God—outhouse, all for the chance to connect with her father: a man who, despite his many faults, she can’t help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this new subarctic environment, Jonah—the quiet, brooding, and proud Alaskan pilot who keeps her father’s charter plane company operational—can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. And he’s clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that she’s too pampered to handle the wild.

Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, it’s replaced by friendship—or perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents tried—and failed at—years ago.

It’s a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.

mini-REVIEW: Keep Her Safe by K.A. Tucker

Keep Her Safe is a romantic suspense set in Austin, Texas. It sends you on a journey of corrupt cops and cover ups, with the constant question of why driving you to the very last page.  While you're fitting all the puzzle pieces together, Tucker subtly weaves the love story of Gracie and Noah so that by the end of the novel you've not only discovered all sorts of answers to questions you didn't know you should be answered, but you also have a solid friendship and love story developed.

Fun, suspenseful romantic read, what's not to love about that?

Synopsis:

Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and illicit affairs from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “propulsive plot twists and searing seduction” (USA TODAY).

Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that's been rattling in her closet for years, and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family's life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.

Gracie Richards wasn't born in a trailer park, but after fourteen years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it's all she knows anymore. At least here people don't care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive...until a man who clearly doesn't belong shows up on her doorstep.

Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department's dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.

Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker's reputation as one of today's most talented new voices in romantic suspense.

REVIEW: Until It Fades by K.A. Tucker

Our Review

Shel: KA Tucker can write anything. Right? Aren't we all in agreement? I mean seriously everything she writes has me glued to my kindle and completely absorbed--so absorbed that when I reach the ending I'm always trying to tap for the next pages and am sad when there aren't any. Until It Fades had me sneak reading at work, staying up way later than I should, and rushing home before the girls got off their buses so that I could fit more reading time in. Court: AMEN. I have officially loved this woman since Ten Tiny Breaths captivated our hearts, and I will keep right on with this book. This book was absolutely amazing and enthralling and kept my heart racing until the very last page.

Shel: I'm sure as you scroll through the reviews of this novel on Goodreads or Amazon you'll see lots of reasons why readers love this novel and the pairing of Catherine and Brett and most likely I'd agree with most (if not all) of the reasons but for me I think the thing that really worked for me was the various family dynamics. Whether it was the flashbacks to her nightmarish teen experience or what was happening 7 years later, I liked the moments of honesty and love that were a constant and that the families involved weren't just the biological ones but the ones we make on our own-our friends and our loves. The contrasts of then and now, of her family and his, of her work family and the people of her town made for a rich reading experience. Court: Uhhhh! YES! A thousand times yes. The secondary characters in this book really almost stole the show. Between Brenna, Keith, Lou, Leroy and especially Jack...I really enjoyed how much dialogue and character development is in this book. It really speeds along and is exciting in so many different way from start to finish. Nothing went as I expected (and yeah, I am still trying to guess what's gonna happen...and that is probably something that is never gonna happen with K.A. Tucker...but I can't help it!) I really enjoyed the premise, and really just enjoyed every second of Brett and Catherine.

Shel: I'd be remiss if I didn't say that I appreciated that Tucker tried to keep Catherine's experiences as a single, poor mom were as real as possible and yet never felt grim--just real. I also liked that as much as Brett helped her, she helped him which feels like the only way they could work. Court: We love single parent stories for how much heart and grit they have to keep on keeping on every day, and when an author does it justice...perfecto! Their meeting is unlikely, but once they do...I felt their path to being friends is a genuine one that wasn't fast, or insta, or contrived. I REALLY appreciated that, and I REALLY appreciated how insightful Brenna is. She might just be the smartest character we have! She loves her momma and really wants her to be happy and it was beautiful.

Shel: As with all of Tucker's books I can't help but see what she'll do next and hold out hope that we might see the characters again some day. Court: She opened the door! We'll be waiting to see if she walks through it! (Read: Hoping! Waiting! Excitedly!)
