REVIEW: Getting Real by Emma Chase

OUR REVIEW:

It's been a while since I've been in an Emma Chase world and it's so fun getting back into it. Getting Real has so many things to enjoy, starting with the characters: Connor and Violet. These two have to be two of the kindest characters I've come across in a while. They're genuinely good people that only want the best for those around them...and well, anyone. He's this calm, steady, down to earth ER doc and she's this vivacious, funny, kind ER nurse. A match made in heaven. In addition to having awesome characters, Emma Chase filled the novel with scenes that made me crack up laughing, tear up, and made my heart swell with all the love going on on the pages. I love a book that can give me such a range of emotions. It was also fun to revisit some of the previous characters and get a peek at what they're up to, as well as meeting new characters that have me hoping they'll be more to this series.

Shel: Let me tell you about reading Emma Chase novels.

Shel: You pick one up with enough time to read a chapter and it's never enough time, ever. So then you find yourself trying to negotiate with your schedule to see if there's any way possible that you can ignore everything in your life until you can get to the end. You're reading at every moment, sneak reading when you should be working, and putting off today what you can do tomorrow to get back to the book and to the HEA that you know is coming. Court: That is an 100% accurate description of how my day reading this book went! 

Shel: This is my experience with every Emma Chase novel and since it had been a while since I've read her, I foolishly thought I'd be able to dole the reading out this time. HAHAHAH. Nope. Getting Played is addictive and impossible to put down. Lainey and Dean's story is heartwarming, sexy, fun, and funny. It includes many of my favorite things--unexpected surprises, moments that'll make you laugh until you shake the bed, characters you actually would like to be friends with, and an oh shit moment that sucks but isn't drawn out too long, and secondary characters we've met before and are so happy to see again. Court: YES! I really liked all of the twists and turns that was their journey in this story. I liked their characters and had fun in both of their heads. I too am ashamed to admit it has been way too long since I've devoured her books, and I have to say I regret it. I need to find out if there's been anything I've missed out on because Emma Chase books are such a joy to read every single time. 

Shel: I love this couple and this cast of characters and I am hoping against hope that we get more stories from this crew. Court: I am too. Even if it is in the form of Grams and the Widower Anderson, I'll take it... ;) lol!

I find Lainey in the living room—standing on a ladder, with those long, toned legs peeking out from itty bitty cotton black shorts and a power drill in her hand, while Bruce Springsteen sings “I’m Goin’ Down” from a speaker in the corner. And, dear God—the things I could do to her on that ladder. Wonderful, filthy things that instantly make my heart pound and my cock throb. She’s the perfect height for me to just walk over there and put my mouth between her legs. I picture it, see it in my mind—the way she’d grip my hair and pant my name, arch her back and writhe against my face . . . But then I catch sight of the small bump of her stomach, and reality smacks me in the head. I think about the baby—and how making Lainey lose her mind three feet off the ground wouldn’t be the safest option. What the hell is up with that? “I read that you’re not supposed to reach above your head when you’re pregnant.” “That’s just an old wives’ tale.” I wrap my hands around her hips, holding her steady. “Maybe the old wives knew what they were talking about. Come on, come down.” Slowly, Lainey lowers her arms and turns in my hands. I lift her off the ladder by her hips, tilting my head back and holding her above me for a moment, before sliding her slowly down. And the feel of her softness rubbing against me, the friction—it’s fantastic. When her feet are on the ground, I dip my head and our faces are just millimeters apart. Close enough to count the sprinkle of cute, light freckles that dust the bridge of her nose. “That’s better,” I say softly, taking the stud-finder out of her hands. “I’ll do it.” “Okay.” Lainey’s tongue peeks out, wetting her bottom lip. “Thanks.” Like I said . . . fucking killing me.

REVIEW: Royally Yours by Emma Chase

     

OUR REVIEW:

I've really, really loved this series. I love the complete fantasy world of Wessco and the royal family--I mean who wouldn't? You get to plunge into something so very different than the reality of the world today and imagine what it would be like to be the ruler of a kingdom. In addition to that, Emma Chase writes characters who are just interesting to read; I find that I consume her novels in hours because I can't seem to stop reading once I start. 

Royally Yours was no different--I was completely taken with getting to know Lenora as a young princess--so different than the Queen we know in the first three novels in the series. She's so much more than I gave her credit for and her story before she met Edward, and after, was so much more emotional than I expected--I legit had tears in sections and that is definitely not something I expected from a novelist who usually makes me cackle with laughter (yet another reason I enjoy Emma Chase's works--just when I think I know what to expect, she does something unexpected). 

After reading Royally Yours I want to reread the entire series to see if my perspective of Lenora would change. I think I always suspected she was much more than what she seemed to be and now I know she is--and I'm wondering what hints I missed in the other novels.

REVIEW: Getting Schooled by Emma Chase

Every time I read an Emma Chase novel, I find myself longing for a long backlist of her books. Her novels are such a good blend of romance and humor and total escapist fun; Getting Schooled continues in that tradition. It's probably one of her sweetest romance to date, in my opinion, and features one of my favorite second chance romance plots that I've read in a while. The humor on almost every page had me laughing so hard that I shook furniture and the setting seemed like a place I'd love to live. One of my favorite parts of this romance, if I'm truly being honest, is that Garrett is a teacher (and Callie becomes a substitute). The observations made about teachers and students were hilarious and so true (how did you know, Emma Chase!, about all the inner workings of faculty and students?!).  And I especially loved how much love and respect both Garrett and Callie have for their students and their jobs--of course I'm a high school teacher so I'm biased, but their experiences as teachers really rang true for me.

This steamy, romantic comedy had me laughing, even tearing up at parts, and loving Garrett and Callie's second chance at romance. Loved it!

  High school parking lots are one of the most dangerous places on earth. I don’t have statistics to back that up…but I know it’s true.
