OUR REVIEW: Coach was something different than what I usually expect when I think of a Devney Perry novel. I typically associate her novels with a character that's in danger or trouble and in their plight to escape it or avoid it or rectify it, they fall in love with someone involved...or something along those lines. When I saw her first announcement of this novel, I was intrigued. I like football and romance and the single dad/second chance tropes so I grabbed it up when it went live.
This novel follows the story of Millie and Ford and how they went from best friends to strangers, with Millie having some really hurt feelings about how things went down. Fast forward to many years after college and Ford ends up being hired at the head coach where Millie is one of the assistant athletic directors. As you can imagine, things heat up almost immediately. Ford is instantly interested in Millie as soon as he sees her and Millie is instantly guarded when she sees him. As the pages go on, we learn more about why there are hurt feelings and why things happened the way that they did. Soon it's less about the past and more about how they navigate a world where he's a dad, plus they're colleagues in a place that has a zero tolerance policy on coworkers dating. It's at times tense, at times frustrating, but ultimately satisfying that things end the way they do.
It's always interesting when a tried and true author does something a little different from what many expect and I can only see this series getting stronger as Devney Perry delves into it.
SYNOPSIS:
AN AMAZON #1 BESTSELLER
A single dad, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, Devney Perry.
Football star. Single dad. And once, a long time ago, mine.
I’ve spent the better part of a decade forgetting Ford Ellis. If he had just stayed away from Montana, I might have erased the memory of his striking blue eyes and rugged smile forever. Avoiding him was easy when the only place I saw his face was on ESPN—and a remote control could fix that problem.
Except my boss just hired Ford as the new head coach for the Treasure State Wildcats. Not only will I be stuck watching him on the sidelines this season, but avoiding him will be impossible now that we’re working together.
Maybe I haven’t forgotten Ford. Maybe I still dream about what we might have been. Maybe he hasn’t forgotten me either.
Except those maybes won’t change the fact that we were never meant to be. Maybe he was mine once. But as of today, the only thing I’ll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach.
A Little Too Wild is the third novel in the Madigan Mountain series--a series where each book was connect through three brothers and each written by a different author. In this novel we meet Crew, a professional snowboarder, and Raven, coordinator of the ski school at his family's resort. These two grew up together--he was her brother's best friend. Before you think it's an unrequited love situation--it's not. She wasn't really interested in him when they were growing up; he was interested in her but it seemed more like a passing curiosity. When Crew comes home for a family wedding 12 years after he left town, these two decide to have a one night stand that somehow goes on for weeks, much to Raven's chagrin. She was hoping to have fun and get him out of her system, move on with her life, and find a nerd boy to settle down with (she's been burned by athletes all of her dating life). Crew also thought it would be a night of fun but surprisingly found that he was hooked on her and begin finding reasons to extend his stay.
A Little Too Wild was fun because of the secrecy, their inability to stay away from each other, and the fairly low angst involved. It was also interesting to see what the other Madigan brothers were up to. And, honestly, it was fun to read a Devney Perry novel that didn't have the mysterious, mildly threatening plot line that many of her novels feature.
Crew Madigan is a snowboarding legend. He’s gorgeous, rich, famous and every woman’s dream. Well, except mine. I’ll take a nerdy guy with a clumsy streak who wouldn’t know what to do with a pair of skis to save his life. Superstar athletes? No, thanks. World champions? Hard pass. Crew? Definitely not.
It’s been over a decade since Crew set foot on Madigan Mountain. Instead of sitting with his family during his brother’s wedding, he takes the chair beside mine. ESPN really doesn’t do that chiseled jaw justice. The cameras miss the flecks of gold in his eyes. When he invites me to his hotel room after the wedding, I break all of my own rules for just one night.
But here’s the problem with just one night. Crew is impossible to forget. And he’s not the only one who loves a thrill. The crash, the broken bones, are inevitable. Because together, we’re a little too wild.

Title: The Lucky Heart
Author: Devney Perry
Genre: Contemporary Romance
OUR REVIEW:
I think that The Lucky Heart may be my favorite book in this series, so far. The characters, Felicity and Silas, are characters that many will relate to and really like. Felicity is a character that we met in book 1 (if you've read it) and she seemed so harsh and cold; The Lucky Heart will explain why she seemed so awful and then you'll find yourself rooting for her. Silas is, as all of the male protagonists are in this series, kind and tough and perfectly wonderful. Both of these characters are the kind of people you want to be friends with..the kind of people you want in your corner.
In addition to having characters you'll really like, the problems and conflicts that these characters confront are ones that many people will relate to. Trying to learn to forgive and let go of past 'lives' and to be the person you know you can be, are things many people moving back to hometowns have attempted. The Lucky Heart really delves into Felicity's 'apology tour' and how she tries to make up for the wrongs she feels she perpetrated. In the midst of all of this she makes some great friends and shows herself as the good friend she can be to old and new friends alike.
The Lucky Heart tackles some serious issues, catches us up on the characters in the first two books, and introduces us to new characters who will undoubtedly be featured in upcoming books. This novel will absorb your weekend with characters who feel like friends and will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy as you finish it.
About The Lucky Heart:
Life on his ranch could be their future. If they can overcome their past.
Felicity’s life story reads like the script to a bad soap opera. Girl’s high-school boyfriend becomes a drug addict. Girl falls for boyfriend’s best friend. Girl leaves them both behind only to return home years later for murdered ex-boyfriend’s funeral. Now she’s back home in Montana, ready to start fresh. She’s got a long list of amends to make and relationships to rebuild, including one with the man who has owned her heart for sixteen years.
Silas doesn’t need much. He’s got a great horse, close friends and the Lucky Heart ranch, but something has always been missing. He’s not an idiot. He knows the missing piece is Felicity. And now that she’s returned to Prescott, he’s got a second chance to win her heart. This time, the only thing standing in his way is history. Drudging up the past is going to be about as painful as playing tug of war with barbed wire. But if they can heal old wounds, he’ll get the girl he should have had all along.
What a fucking horrible day.
Wes’s funeral had been about as much fun as shoveling horse shit. I’d gone home to the ranch afterward and gotten straight to work, hoping it would distract me, but after three hours, I knew nothing was going to take my mind off Felicity.
Fourteen years. I hadn’t seen her in fourteen years, and today was the day she’d come back to Prescott. For Wes. She’d stayed away from her family, from me, for fourteen years, but she’d come back for Wes?
That stung.
Then on top of it all, she’d acted like an ice queen. It made the fact that she was still the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen even harder to stomach. I just couldn’t believe the harsh and rude woman at Wes’s funeral had been my Felicity.
So here I was, standing outside her hotel room door in the freezing cold, needing to see for myself if she had really changed that much. Because if she had, then maybe I could finally let her go.
I raised my fist and banged on the door, taking out some of my frustration on its wooden face.
“Coming,” Felicity called. She must not have checked the peephole because when she opened the door, she sucked in a sharp breath.
Fuck. Why did she have to be so beautifully sad? All I wanted was to pull her into my arms. Her eyes had been covered at the funeral, hidden behind huge black sunglasses, but now I saw they were red and puffy. She’d cried for losing Wes. Had she ever cried that much over me?
Without a word, she stepped back and swung an arm out for me to come in. I stepped inside and crossed the room but didn’t sit.
“How are you?” she asked after closing the door.
“Fine. You?”
She shrugged. “I’ve had better days.”
“So since you’re in a bad place, it gives you the right to treat people like shit?” The words flew out of my mouth without thought and I regretted them the second she winced.
She took a calming breath. “I know I didn’t handle myself the right way at the funeral. I’m sorry for being rude to you and I’ll be apologizing to my family on Christmas.”
I scoffed. “Did you apologize to your mom and brother for not visiting for fourteen fucking years?”
She winced again.
Fuck. What was wrong with me? I had always tried to keep a hold on my temper where Felicity was concerned but again I was blurting out attacks.
This time, she didn’t keep that calm composure. Her spine stiffened and her lip curled. “That’s none of your business,” she snapped. “I apologize for being rude to you at the funeral, but if all you’re here to do is yell at me, get out.”
I closed the gap between us, standing right in her space and glaring down at her. Most people, men and women, would have cowered. I usually intimidated people with this glare, but not Felicity. Time hadn’t dulled her feisty spirit in the slightest. She didn’t move an inch, just glared right back.
“You’d like that,” I sneered, “wouldn’t you?”
“Like what?” she asked through gritted teeth.
“For me to leave so you can go back to pretending that avoiding this place and the people here wasn’t totally fucking selfish.” I was being a complete and total asshole. I knew it, I just couldn’t stop. All the pain I’d buried for years had bubbled up to the surface and was spewing out of my mouth.
Felicity’s eyes welled but she didn’t lose her edge. “What else? Obviously, you came here to pick a fight. To hurt me back. So, keep going. If that’s what it will take to make you feel better, then please, keep going.”
Another thing that hadn’t changed: she called me on my shit. My anger deflated and I shook my head. “It’s not making me feel better.”
“Then what will?”
Not fighting with her would make me feel better. Having her explain what had happened all those years ago would make me feel better. Hearing why she’d stayed away for so long would make me feel better.
But I didn’t tell her any of that. Instead, I crushed my mouth to hers and hugged her tight so she couldn’t push me away. Not that she tried. Her arms wrapped around my waist and she fisted my shirt in her hands.
I poured all of the pain and anger she had caused me into our kiss. She gave me all of her grief and heartache. Neither of us stopped until we were both exhausted from hot and angry sex.
While she slept on my side, I stared at the ceiling, wishing tonight had gone a whole lot differently. I wished I weren’t still drawn to her. I wished that she had come back for me, not Wes. I wished that I weren’t such a damned fool, always waiting on the sidelines, ready to pick her up when he broke her heart.
All tonight did was prove one thing.
History really does repeat itself.

The Clover Chapel is a warm and sweet romance that will make you smile and swoon (while also wanting to move to Montana). It's unique in that it centers on a second chance romance to two people who seemingly wouldn't need it--a married couple. From a night in Vegas to a crazy coincidencal move to Montana, we follow the love story of Emmeline and Nick. These two will keep you hoping for their HEA while smiling at their banter all the way to the end.
I think the 2 things I really enjoy about this series is how down to earth and relatable these characters are--they're really never hard to like or root for. And the community of Prescott is inviting and exactly what you'd want a small hometown to feel like.
The Clover Chapel is low angst, even with its twists and turns, and will have you feeling as warm and sweet as the characters are. BUY IT HERE. SYNOPSIS: She took a dare and fell in love. Truth would have been the smarter choice.
After years of living under her father’s thumb, Emmeline is ready to break free. She’s abandoned her life as a New York socialite to follow her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher in a small, wholesome town. Seeing the man that nearly broke her was absolutely not what she had hoped to find in Prescott, Montana.
Nick hasn’t seen his Emmy in nine years, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten a thing about the woman he loves. After just one blissful night as man and wife, he gave her up, sacrificing his own happiness to keep her safe—far away from him. But the moment she walks back into his lonely life is the moment he decides never to let her go again. He won’t waste his second chance. All he has to do is win back Emmeline’s heart, keep her safe from the shadows in his past and prove to her that taking a wager on him is a sure bet.
