REVIEW: Lead Me Back by CD Reiss

OUR REVIEW:

From the time that they met until the very last page, Lead Me Back held me in its thrall. It was the best balance of Hollywood and not-Hollywood, of humor and pathos, of romance and plot. Justin was not at all what I expected or expected to like, at all, and Kayla was exactly the type of girl I love—so between the two of them, I was completely hooked. Their individual stories were interesting and the path to their HEA was dynamic and addicting and really hard to put down.

Add to that Reiss’s mix of pared down prose with these really romantic swoony moments that are almost immediately followed with these really punchy spare lines and it all just flowed. And I absolutely cannot leave out the fact that she always has secondary characters I would love to see more of—the friends, the attorney, the family—which would selfishly give me another glance at Kayla and Justin.

As I frequently am with my favorite authors, I hated to see this one end and I’m eagerly awaiting what new thing she’s writing next.

SYNOPSIS:

Cutting all ties, Kayla Montgomery drives cross-country to Los Angeles. New start. New life. And an unexpected new job: assistant to Justin Beckett.

The Justin Beckett.

The boy band rebel with the cocky attitude and dreamy bed head who casts a spell over his fans and tests the patience of his handlers.

Now at the peak of Mount Adulthood, he has to build a clean-cut, movie star image. It’s in his contract. No partying. No attitude. No groupies.

To tie it together, he needs a normal girl.

Suddenly, Kayla’s swept up in Justin’s glamorous world, and his arms. But the most dizzying thing is Justin himself. Sweet, generous, reliable, and as eager to shed his past as Kayla is hers.

About that…

Those ties she thought she’d cut? They’ve followed her across the country with her secrets in tow, and they’re about to test Kayla’s courage, Justin’s loyalty, and a love that wasn’t part of the deal.

COVER REVEAL: Crowne Rules by C.D. Reiss

Crowne Rules - CR banner

Crowne Rules, an all-new sizzling hot, forced proximity standalone from New York Times bestselling author C.D. Reiss is coming September 29th, and we have the sexy cover!

crowne rules cover

What happens when fire and ice are forced into close proximity?

With the paparazzi hot on her heels, Mandy Bettencourt is desperate for somewhere to hide, and her best friend has just the place.

It’s perfect. No Internet. No phone. A deep bathtub she’s soaking in when HE shows up. Her best friend’s brother, Dante Crowne. Rich as a cardinal sin and handsome enough to piss off the devil. A man with a reputation for unforgettable bedroom games.

Mandy got an early taste of them in high school--for seven minutes in a closet. She can tell you, the rumors are all true.

Dante knows he’s got a reputation for a lot of things, including a love of solitude. But there’s a beautiful socialite in his bathtub, and the memory of those seven minutes isn’t inspiring him to kick her out. So he offers her a deal. If she wants to stay, she has to work. If she makes a mistake, she’s corrected with pink hand marks on her backside.

That’s the deal. Beg for it or leave it.

He’s surprised when she gets on her knees, and he’s even more surprised when she likes the punishment. The most shocking thing, though, is how much he’s starting to like her.

They can’t stay in paradise forever. Los Angeles awaits. But an old nemesis sets his sights on tearing them apart, and Dante may be the one left begging.

About CD Reiss CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

REVIEW: Broken Edge by C.D. Reiss

BROKEN EDGE RB BANNER.jpg

"Twisted and sexy, this story grabbed me from the VERY FIRST WORD and never let me go. 6 STARS!" —Alessandra Torre, New York Times bestselling author

Broken Edge, the highly anticipated third installment to the “intensely sexy” and “mind-blowing” Edge Series by New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss is LIVE!

broken-edge-three-final.jpg

OUR REVIEW:

Ohmygod. Seriously. This series is addictive and interesting and has me questioning things the entire time I'm reading. For every page I turn, I think I've concocted a new answer or plot twist and it makes reading this sexy series so much fun.

As with the previous books in this series, Broken Edge continues right were the last book left off. More and more information is coming out about their pasts--which is helping answer questions (while also creating more theories and questions!!). And with every page read the level of intensity climbs--I have a feeling I'm going to be DYING when I read the final book and yet I am so excited to be put through the CD Reiss torture while also getting answers and seeing how this all ends.

Great third book.
You think you’d go far for love?
Think again.
---------
She really knows how to push a man.
She finds the cracks and she goes right for them. She’ll travel across the world just to break me apart, piece by piece, until every last secret is exposed and every weakness revealed.
I swear to God, I love her so much I’ll let her do it.
I’ll let her do anything.
But when she hurts herself to protect me?
That’s a line in the sand.

COVER REVEAL: Shuttergirl by CD Reiss

Author Note:  If you know me, you know my Submission and Corruption books. This is different. This is about love and loss, ambition and talent, and our commitments to ourselves and each other. I don't close the door on the expression of love, but this is not the usual dirty pleasure.

Add the Hollywood Project aka ShutterGirl to your TBR at:   http://bit.ly/1IpYCv7

Release Date: May 20th

ShutterGirl Book Trailer:

Blurb

I am not hurt.

I don’t need a second chance with him, or a life I thought I had.

While he was out forgetting me to become a movie star, I was building a career out of nothing. A career as a paparazzi, but a career. For a foster kid who bounced around every home in Los Angeles, that wasn’t easy.

This camera is all I have.

He’s nothing to me. Every time I take his picture and sell it, I remind myself that I did it all without him or his approval, his cinnamon smell or his clear green eyes. He lights up the screen like a celestial body, but he’s nothing but a paycheck to me.

He can throw my camera off a balcony, and nothing has to change. We can stay king and queen of the same city, and different worlds.

Except this is Hollywood, and here, anything can happen.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did embed TV story structure in her head well enough for her to take a big risk on a TV series structured erotic series called Songs of Submission. It’s about a kinky billionaire hung up on his ex-wife, an ingenue singer with a wisecracking mouth; art, music and sin in the city of Los Angeles.

Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to give the toilets a once-over every couple of weeks or chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

NEW RELEASE & REVIEW: Coda by CD Reiss

Will Jonathan and Monica get their happily ever after?
Find out in CD Reiss’s newest release!

Shel: After the last book in this series, I was a little nervous. CD Reiss gives zero fucks about what people expect and she just goes for it--whatever it is those characters need from her, she writes it. Need a major character known for his strength to have a heart transplant? NO PROBLEM. sheeit. So, knowing that was what I'd dealt with in the past, can you see why I was a little anxious going in? Turns out I was right to be nervous but ....I felt completely mollified by the end.

I don't really know what to say without being spoilery so here's a collection of my thoughts:

  • one of Jonathan's sisters nailed it when she said they were suffering from post traumatic stress (but honestly, weren't we all after the last book? I KID. sorta)
  • the depth of love and desire to protect was lovely and unwavering
  • loved the glimpses of secondary characters
  • the sexy/heat factor was high (but honestly, their love and fear and hope far outweighed that for me)
  • the fears each of them carried were so painful and raw and hurtful and sad and I'm glad they weren't prettied up--it felt right
This book just reiterated why I enjoy CD Reiss' books. She seemingly has no fear about putting her readers/characters through their paces. She does what feels right to the characters and not just what would placate the rest of us. The ending to this series was just what it needed to be, in my opinion, and while we had to work for that HEA..it was exactly right for Jonathan and Monica.

Coda is NOW AVAILABLE!

Did you want a pat little ending about Jonathan and I riding off into the sunset? Did you want flowers and stars? Man, I wish it was all soft filters and violins. I wish we could fight about who cleaned the bathroom or who was cooking dinner. But I knew I was never destined for simple contentment.

I almost committed murder for him. I almost tore us apart to save him. How do you get back on the horse after that? Because, I promise you, nothing is the same. Nothing.

I’ve earned our happily ever after. Now I have to survive it.

An excerpt

“You know what, Monica, you don’t even know yourself. Look at you. I haven’t seen you this relaxed in months. The only time you let your worry go is when you give me control. And your worry is what keeps you from being honest.”
I swallowed. Blinked. A torrent of wetness welled behind my eyes, “I don’t want to break the scene.”
“Stay still. Stay naked. Speak your mind.”
“I almost died with you a hundred times. That recovery room, they had you in this induced coma and you looked dead. There were bags of blood. Bags, hanging over you and you were all opened up. And, I’m sorry, I haven’t said this because you’re the one who went through it.” I swallowed a gallon of tears. “I don’t want to see you like that again. But I think about it all the time. I dream about it. I see it when I close my eyes. I want you to live, so I do what I think is going to make you happy and I always get it wrong. Stay or go. I give you attention or none. It’s always wrong.”
“What about your happiness?”
“It doesn’t matter. Not as much as yours. It’s not life or death.”
“It is, Monica. It is.”
I shook my head. “You can’t convince me of that. We can do this hurtful honesty thing all day. You’re the priority and I’m okay with that. Deal with it.”
He nodded, looking down for a blink, then up at me. He reached for my wrists.
“These go behind your back.”
I did as instructed.
“Now, get on your knees.”
I bent them. With my hands behind my back, it was hard to balance.
“Do you need some help?” he asked.
“Yes.”
I thought he’d take me gently by the elbow, but dragged me down. He was right. I was relaxed, totally submitting and trusting him, loving every bit of discomfort he dished out.
“Spread your knees apart.”
I did, too slowly for him. He kicked them wide.
“Do you remember your safeword?” He asked, unbuckling his belt.
“Yes.” A tingling rush went down my spine with the promise of his dominance and the way it made me forget how fragile he really was.
His cock was out in the next second. “Open. Your. Mouth.”
