REVIEW: Rising by Laurelin Paige

RISING (Slay #4) by Laurelin Paige Release Date: May 12th

OUR REVIEW:

Revenge, if you recall, left us on one hell of a cliffhanger which is exactly where we pick up in Rising, the final novel in this series. I should warn you that starting this novel at 11 pm IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. You will find in impossible to put it down before 3 AM and even then, you'll only stop because your eyes feel like they're going to dry up and roll out of your head. So you reluctantly go to sleep knowing that you will wake up and not move until you finish this book. TRUE STORY.

Let me also say that if you haven't read the previous series with Hudson and Chandler, you might be in the minority, but you won't be lost. As a matter of fact, having not read that series, yet, I found that I probably had a vastly different experience than many Laurelin Paige fans. My emotions were all over the place in all four books but by the end I found that I really like Edward and Celia. Were they messed up people at various points in this series? Yes. Did I always agree with their actions? No. Even still, I appreciated them for who they were and how they ended. I especially appreciated them after reading Laurelin's rationale for writing this series--kudos to you, Laurelin, for writing their stories.

So if you've read this far, you realize I'm not saying much about the happenings of this fourth novel--I'm kinda dancing around it and talking about aspects but not the actual plot points. I think the best thing I can tell those of you who are wondering about this last novel is that there are a lot of moving parts and a lot of resolution. There were answers and finished plot points that I didn't even know I wanted until they happened and the last chapter and epilogue really put a nice finishing touch on this crazy ass story. I truly think she could put these characters to rest and it would feel right (though follow ups would be fun too). I also think that even though I now know a little of the behind the scenes of the series that overlaps with this one, I am further intrigued by all of these characters and suspect that my next chunk of free time will be devoted to starting the Fixed Series.

Blurb: The stakes have never been higher, and she's full of the devil. Edward Fasbender is my husband. Together, we brought down powerful men. Now we have a chance to start over. To be the family neither of us ever had, to leave the past in the past where it belongs. Edward has a choice to make. It will decide if we fall into the flames--or rise together.

About the Author: With millions of books sold worldwide, Laurelin Paige is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author. She is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones or Letterkenny, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She's also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn't do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio. She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.
