REVIEW: Revenge by Laurelin Paige

REVENGE (Slay #3) by Laurelin Paige
Release Date: February 25th

OUR REVIEW:

***It occurred to me part way through read Revenge that there may indeed be people who shouldn't be reading this novel due to some of the traumatic issues that it confronts and if I neglected to say so in a prior review, please accept my apology and also do some research before you read (if you have some abuse triggers).

Boy oh boy did I have some thoughts when I was reading Revenge. I think I was instantly lulled into a sense of happiness that Celia and Edward seemed to be on the same page--they were getting along (as well as they can) and the relationship they were forging seemed to be working. As the novel progressed though, I became more and more proud of the person Celia was striving to become and more disenchanted with Edward. She seemed to be growing and trying and working on becoming who she needed and wanted to be and he seemed to be so caught up in his control and his plans and his ego that even when he showed how much he loved her, I wasn't satisfied. I wanted him to take ten steps back and look at her, truly see who she was striving to be and who she needed him to be but nooooo. Nope. Not yet, though I see a glimmer of promise and willingness to perhaps try to take it down a notch or two. I suspect that he's going to get worse before he gets better...especially because of how the novel ended...and I also suspect Celia may dig in her heels a little too, in the next book in this series.

All told, this novel was just as addictive to read as the other three in this series and I'm eager to see what happens next with this entire cast of characters.

Blurb: Their relationship changes again when Celia learns the devil takes care of his own. Edward Fasbender is my savior. From the ashes of who I once was, he is helping me to rise. He has a list of people who have wronged him. And now he's adding names to that list. Names that I gave him. And we will have our revenge.

Excerpt: Inside the windowed room, I set one of the glasses on a table next to the loveseat then dimmed the overhead before taking the other glass to the armchair across from it. The string of lights that had been put up outside for the party were still lit, creating a romantic mood. Not exactly what I was going for, but it would do. In my experience, the darker setting made confessions easier. I stretched my neck, easing the knots there as I looked out over the yard. The day had been busy and full, and the party had been, by all accounts, successful, but I’d spent the entire time preoccupied with Edward. Even when entertaining strangers or running around trying to find Ilsa to tell her we were out of toilet paper, I’d been aware of my husband. He was a magnetic force, always pulling my thoughts and my body in his direction. Like gravity holding me in his orbit. I’d never felt that way about anyone before. Not just that in love but also that attached. I was still reeling from the newness of it, eighteen months after we’d wed. I was also still adjusting to the way he affected me. How he’d brought me peace yet could stir up levels of jealousy within me that I’d never thought possible. His trip to the garden with Marion was innocent—it had to be considering the way he grinned at me when he’d returned. The devil himself wouldn’t flaunt his discretions so openly. Would he?

About the Author: With millions of books sold worldwide, Laurelin Paige is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author. She is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones or Letterkenny, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She's also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn't do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio. She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.
