REVIEW: The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks by Max Monroe

Everyone calls me Lucky, but when it comes to love, I’m anything but.

The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks, the first in the fun and flirty Jerk Duet from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe is LIVE!

I have a long history of dating the wrong men.
You know the ones I’m talking about.
The beautiful, charming guys who are quite literally too good to be true.
The ones who are impulsive in love and prefer short flings over long-term relationships.
I’m talking about the jerks.
The guys who taste so good, but are so very bad.
After going through the most ridiculous breakup in the history of breakups, I thought I’d learned my lesson. I officially put myself into jerk rehab and committed to changing my ways.
But, let’s be real here, love is never that easy.
Especially when an arrogant, charming, he-devil of a sexy alpha man gets involved.
Aussie accent.
Tanned skin.
Muscular, surfer bod.
Gorgeous brown eyes.
And the kind of sexy smile that brings women to their knees.
Oh, did I mention that he’s also my best friend’s brother?
Yeah. This story, my story, it’s a real doozy you guys.
The day I stopped falling for jerks, I met Oliver Arsen—the biggest jerk of all.

OUR REVIEW:

The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks by Max Monroe started as I anticipated--lots of comedy, one liners, quips, and general good humor. Lucky, our protagonist, uses humor as her shield, in my opinion. She uses it as a way to lighten up and cope with what she feels is a flaw: her aptitude for dating only jerk. The first part of this novel is really dedicated to her repeating to herself that she's on a no jerks diet, her new task at her job, and trying her damnedest to avoid the newest, most attractive, and should be off limits jerk.

It's at about the halfway point that it's evident that this is no longer just a funny retelling of how she came to having a podcast about her unfortunate predilection for jerks. It's here where we get more backstory, more emotion, and more of the romance part of the romcom. Don't get me wrong--the humor is there-- as is the desire to face palm, but there's more emotion too. And just when I'm all melty at the idea of this whole thing working out, some things happen that had me zooming through the last chapters and wondering how Max Monroe will write this second book. Not only am I curious about the other side of the story, but I'm very curious about how they'll craft the response. Will it be a traditional narrative or will someone get a podcast too? Hmmmm. Inquiring minds want to know. Luckily book two releases super soon, so no one will have to wait a long time to find out.
